Istituto Svizzero is pleased to present “I is we, we is them, them is us, us is I, I is you and you is I”, first solo exhibition in Italy by Swiss artist Ramaya Tegegne.
Ramaya Tegegne’s installations, performances, publications, and projects investigate the economics of art production, display, representation and reception. She often cites other artists and artworks to do so. Tegegne’s preoccupations for this exhibition lay on the intersection of feminist and activist discourses. She explores collaborative practices, cooperation, conversations as a means of sharing knowledge as well as deconstructing the social preconditions and dominant mechanisms of the art field. The title of the show is a borrowed quote by Sister Souljah, an Afro-American “raptivist”, author, recording artist and community activist.

Istituto Svizzero presenta “I is we, we is them, them is us, us is I, I is you and you is I”, la prima personale in Italia dell'artista svizzera Ramaya Tegegne.
Le installazioni, le performance, le pubblicazioni e i progetti di Ramaya Tegegne indagano l'economia della produzione artistica, dell'esposizione, della rappresentazione e della loro ricezione. Tale pratica prende spesso forma a partire da citazioni di altri artisti e opere d'arte. Le problematiche che Tegegne affronta in questa mostra concernono, in egual modo, tematiche di attivismo e femministe.
L’artista esplora pratiche collaborative, la cooperazione e le conversazioni come strumento di condivisione della conoscenza, scardinando le precondizioni sociali e i meccanismi dominanti nel sistema dell'arte.
Il titolo della mostra è una citazione presa in prestito da Sister Souljah, una "raptivist" afroamericana, autrice, artista discografica e attivista.
Ramaya Tegegne (Ginevra, Switzerland) ha avuto personali a Kevin Space, Vienna (2019); VIS, Amburgo (2018); Park View / Paul Soto, Bruxelles (2018); Galerie Maria Bernheim, Zurigo (2018); First Continent, Baltimora (2017); Fri Art Kunsthalle Fribourg (2015); and Marbriers 4, Ginevra (2014). Le sue performance sono state mostrate alla Kunsthalle Basel (2018); Kunsthalle Bern (2017) e al Swiss Institute, New York (2016) tra altre.
È co-fondatrice di La Dispersion una libreria d'arte e teoria critica a Ginevra. Nel 2017 ha lanciato 'Wages For Wages Against', una campagna per la remunerazione degli artisti in Svizzera e in altri paesi.
