Carlo Bernardini – Spazio Sospeso

L’installazione di luce cristallizzata in forma fisica attraverso linee di fibra ottica, trasforma le coordinate percettive dello spazio visivo in un disegno che cambia secondo i punti di vista e gli spostamenti dello spettatore.

Al Politecnico di Milano si inaugura “Spazio Sospeso” di Carlo Bernardini, un intervento in fibre ottiche nell’ambiente di connessione tra l'edificio B1 e B2 del Campus Bovisa. L'installazione di luce cristallizzata in forma fisica attraverso linee di fibra ottica, trasforma le coordinate percettive dello spazio visivo in un disegno che cambia secondo i punti di vista e gli spostamenti dello spettatore. Nell'opera di Bernardini i concetti di apparizione/sparizione, materialità/immaterialità, determinano la presenza di un segno tanto più evidente nel buio quanto più invisibile è la suastruttura fisica alla luce. L’artista conferisce così importanza prioritaria alla luce e al disegno mentale da essa materializzato, quasi un voler tracciare l'invisibile.
L’intervento viene presentato dalla Scuola di Design-Corso di Laurea in Design degli Interni del Politecnico di Milano, parallelamente al Salone del Mobile come anteprima del workshop tirocinanti di Maggio 2017, indagine sull’attivazione degli spazi urbani intermedi o “in-betweenspace”, a cura di Giovanna Piccinno, presidente del corso di Laurea in Design degli Interni, e Isa Helena Tibúrcio, dottoranda in Design.

Carlo Bernardini (Viterbo, 1966) vive e lavora a Milano; utilizza la fibra ottica dal 1996. Tra le mostre si segnalano nel 1996 a Roma la XII Quadriennale, nel 2002 l'installazione per “Le città invisibili” alla Triennale di Milano, Sculpture Space a Utica (NY), la XIV Quadriennale al Palazzo Reale a Napoli (2003), le installazioni al Museo Paço Imperial di Rio de Janeiro (2004), a Valencia (2008) alla Ciudad De Las Artes Y Las Ciencias, al DUMBO di New York (2009). Nel 2010 realizza grandi installazioni per Luci d’Artista a Torino, La Scultura Italiana del XXI sec. alla Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro di Milano, al NIMK di Amsterdam, alla Spuiplein dell’Aja e all’Art Light Domaquarée a Berlino. Del 2011 sono le mostre a Londra in The Arc Show, la Kinetica Art Fair alla University of Westminster, e al MACRO, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma. Nel 2012 installa un'opera alla Funarte di Belo Horizonte; nel 2013 presso la House Peroni di Londra, il Macro Testaccio di Roma, e a Metz l'installazione Submerged Breath nelle acque della Moselle Canalisée. Nel 2014 espone alla 4th Bienal del Fin del Mundo a Mar del Plata e negli Emirati Arabi al 17th Islamic art festival di Sharjah, presso lo Sharjah Art Museum. Nel 2015 Bernardini è invitato a Curitiba nella Bienal de Curitiba al Museu Oscar Niemeyer, alla Pop Austin 2015 ad Austin ed a Bratislava per Sculpture and Object XX, al Milan Dobeš Museum. Nel 2016 realizza la grande installazione Dimensioni Invisibili presso “La Porta di Milano”, al Terminal 1 dell’Aeroporto di Malpensa e l’installazione all’898 Innospace di Pechino.

At the Politecnico di Milano opens "Suspended Space" by Carlo Bernardini, an intervention in fiber-optic into the connection area between B1 and B2 buildings, at Bovisa Campus. The installation of crystallized light in physical form through fiber-optic lines transforms the perceptive coordinates of visual space in a drawing that changes according to the points of view and the viewer's movements.
In the work of Bernardini the concepts of appearance/disappearance, materiality/immateriality determine the presence of a much more obvious sign in the dark as much as its physical structure is invisible to light. The artist thus gives priority to light and to the mental drawing that through it materialized, almost wanting to trace the invisible.
The intervention is presented by the School of Design-Bachelor Degree in Interior Design at Politecnico di Milano, in parallel with the Milan Design Week. It is a preview of the intership workshop, investigation on enabling the intermediate urban spaces or "in-between spaces", to be held on May 2017, curated by Giovanna Piccinno, President of the Bachelor Degree in Interior Design, and Isa Helena Tibúrcio, PhD student in Design.
Carlo Bernardini (Viterbo, 1966) lives and works in Milan; he uses the fiber optics since 1996. Among his most important exhibitions: in 1996 the XII Quadriennial in Rome, in 2002 the installation for the 'Invisible Cities' to the XX Milan Triennale, Sculpture Space in Utica (NY), 2003 XIV Quadriennial the Royal Palace in Naples, at the Paço Imperial Museum in Rio de Janeiro (2004), Event Orizon (2007) to the Swing Space in New York, Valencia (2008) to the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, and in 2009 to New York for the D.U.M.B.O Art Festival. In 2010 he created large scale installations such as for ‘Luci d’Artista’ in Turin, La Scultura Italiana del XXI sec. to the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation in Milan, to the NIMK in Amsterdam, to the Spuiplein in The Hague and to the Art Light Domaquarée in Berlin. In 2011 he presented large scale installations at MACRO - Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome, in London at The Arc Show and to the Kinetica Art Fair at the University of Westminster. In 2012 Bernardini is invited to the FAD Festival de Arte Digital, at the Funarte Fundação de Arte in Belo Horizonte; in 2013 he is invited in London to the House Peroni, in Rome to the MACRO Testaccio, and in Metz at the “Nuit Blanche” with the project Submerged Breath on the water of the Moselle Canalisée river. In the same year in Prato he presented The Light Walk, a great installation in collaboration with Museo Pecci, and also finalized an installation to the 4th edition of “The End of the World Biennial” in Mar del Plata, and to the 17th edition of the Islamic Arts Festival in Sharjah to the Sharjah Art Museum, United Arab Emirates. In 2015 Bernardini is invited in Curitiba to the Bienal de Curitiba at Museu Oscar Niemeyer, to the Pop Austin 2015 in Austin (TX), and in Bratislava for Sculpture and Object XX to Milan Dobeš Museum. In 2016 he presented Invisible Dimensions, a great environmental installation at “The Door of Milan” in Malpensa Airport (Terminal 1) and an installation to the Global Innovator Conference 2016 at the 898 Innospace in Beijing.
