Andreco – From clouds to rocks

Romano di nascita, ma bolognese e newyorkese d’adozione Andreco presenterà in galleria una nuova serie di disegni di medio-piccolo formato e una nuova serie di pitture di medio-grande formato, ispirate ai passaggi di stato fisico presenti in natura.

Traffic Gallery è lieta di annunciare la riapertura della nuova stagione espositiva con la prima mostra personale a Bergamo dell’artista Andreco. Romano di nascita, ma bolognese e newyorkese d’adozione Andreco presenterà in galleria una nuova serie di disegni di medio-piccolo formato e una nuova serie di pitture di medio-grande formato, ispirate ai passaggi di stato fisico presenti in natura. Verranno proiettatti i video “Parade for the Landscape” realizzato in Puglia nel 2014 e “My Tribe” realizzato in Marocco. Inoltre verrà presentata una grande opera inedita sotto forma di bandiera esposta da tre finestre sovrastanti gli spazi della galleria. L’intera produzione artistica di Andreco è il frutto di una conoscenza interdisciplinare che raccoglie nelle opere prodotte nozioni di geologia, architettura e ingegneria ambientale, scienze naturali, geografia, morfologia e sociologia urbana. L’artista è soprattutto interessato al rapporto tra spazio urbano e paesaggio naturale e al rapporto tra uomo e natura in tutte le sue declinazioni. Andreco è anche stato in grado di vivere per sette mesi consecutivi all’interno di un bosco nel Galles, all’interno di una piccola casetta di legno, lontano dall’agio e dai comfort della vita umana odierna. Per questa sua attitudine verso tutto ciò che appare come organico ci ricorda un grande artista del ‘900 di nome Jean Tinguely, le cui opere vengono così descritte nei Diari di Keith Haring :
“C'è una specie di sentimento naturalistico, fantastico e misterioso, nel non sapere da dove -tali opere- provengano, credendo che siano reali. […] Queste opere ti costringono (in ogni caso gentilmente), a vederle, sentirle e diventare parte di esse”.

About the Artist

Since 2000 Andreco is researching on different topics as environmental sustainability, urbanism, ecology and the symbolism of the ancient rituals, inventing new symbols. He is interested in the relation between the humans and the Nature and he analyze it from different point of view finding similarities. Andreco's works can be based on the last environmental engineering researches and on the theories of the Alchemists of the 400 century at the same time.

Artist's Statement

In the climate change era the environment needs new symbols to withstand. We are in the century of the environmental crisis and my artwork is affected by it. My research is focused on the relation between humans and nature and between the built environment and the natural landscape.

Since 2000 I'm constantly researching pushed by curiosity, finding connections between art and science, symbolism and environmental sustainability, anatomy and urbanism, bodies and cities, ecology and social justice, emotion and actions. I believe that multidisciplinary researches are needed. I support the idea that individual and collective freedom of thinking is a primary value. The objective of my research is to produce new visions, symbols and formulas, to make the invisible visible, showing the beauty of the hidden natural process as a contemporary alchemist that learns from the past.

Methods:
There isn't just a method (I don't follow a specific scheme for my work ) but the artwork production process is mostly site specific and influenced by the contest, the people that I meet and the environment. The artwork can be related to searching materials and natural elements, observing transformations and simplifying ideas in shapes. Some times I'm looking for a delicate balance, others times for a heavy impact. A common operation in my work is to transpose natural elements from the landscape to the built environment, changing the point of view, the perception and the conventional meaning of the objects, with the clear statement: “Nature as Art”.
