Promenade è la prima mostra antologica in territorio svizzero, dedicata al lavoro dell’artista tedesca naturalizzata italiana, Elisabeth Scherffig.

Promenade propone una passeggiata attraverso circa cinquant’anni di ricerca dell’artista, riunendo opere e nuclei di lavori che restituiscono i temi centrali del suo percorso. È una piccola ma densa antologica, la prima, costruita come un itinerario attraverso cinque sale e il corridoio della Fondazione.

Nata a Düsseldorf nel 1949 e residente a Milano dal 1971, Elisabeth Scherffig ha posto al centro della propria ricerca l’osservazione dello spazio urbano, inteso come organismo in continua trasformazione. Cantieri, demolizioni, rovine architettoniche e detriti industriali diventano materia di indagine e di rappresentazione, accanto alla natura, alla geologia e alle loro strutture.

Come suggerisce il titolo Promenade, il percorso nasce dall’atto del camminare e dell’osservare. Scherffig scopre ciò che la circonda nella città, nelle cave, nella natura, in riva al mare, in montagna e nel proprio studio: ciò che incontra viene raccolto dallo sguardo e successivamente trasformato in segno e disegno. Architettura e natura attraversano così l’intera esposizione come un filo conduttore, in un continuo dialogo tra costruzione, trasformazione, memoria e percezione.

Il percorso espositivo si articola in differenti sezioni e accompagna il visitatore attraverso alcuni dei temi fondamentali dell’opera di Scherffig: la città e le sue stratificazioni, il rapporto tra architettura e natura, i cantieri, le cave, la memoria dello sguardo e la trasformazione continua del paesaggio. Il disegno diventa strumento di osservazione e approfondimento, capace di andare oltre la superficie e di fissare un particolare momento nello spazio e nel tempo.

In occasione della mostra è stato pubblicato un catalogo edito da Silvana Editoriale, con testi di Angela Madesani, che accompagna e approfondisce il progetto espositivo e la ricerca dell’artista.

Promenade offers a journey through approximately fifty years of the artist’s research, bringing together individual works and groups of works that reflect the central themes of her artistic practice. It is a small yet substantial retrospective—the first of its kind—conceived as an itinerary through the Foundation’s five exhibition rooms and corridor.

Born in Düsseldorf in 1949 and based in Milan since 1971, Elisabeth Scherffig has placed the observation of urban space at the heart of her artistic research, viewing it as an organism in a constant state of transformation. Construction sites, demolitions, architectural ruins and industrial debris become subjects of investigation and representation, alongside nature, geology and their structures.

As the title Promenade suggests, the exhibition takes its starting point from the act of walking and observing. Scherffig discovers what surrounds her in the city, in quarries, in nature, by the sea, in the mountains and in her own studio: what she encounters is captured through her gaze and subsequently transformed into marks and drawings. Architecture and nature thus run throughout the exhibition as a common thread, in a continuous dialogue between construction, transformation, memory and perception.

The exhibition is divided into different sections, guiding visitors through some of the fundamental themes of Scherffig’s work: the city and its layers, the relationship between architecture and nature, construction sites, quarries, the memory of the gaze and the continuous transformation of the landscape. Drawing becomes a tool for observation and deeper investigation, capable of going beyond the surface and capturing a particular moment in space and time.

To accompany the exhibition, a catalogue published by Silvana Editoriale, featuring texts by Angela Madesani, has been produced, providing further insight into the exhibition project and the artist’s research.
