Giovedì 6 novembre, alle ore 18.30, apre Sacripante Art Gallery, la nuova galleria del rione Monti di Roma specializzata in Lowbrow Art, i primi artisti in mostra sono Lucamaleonte e David Diaviù Vecchiato.

Uno spazio che mescola un arredamento barocco con il cemento grezzo diventa la base di un progetto curatoriale coraggioso: due mostre annuali, un focus sugli artisti che invadono letteralmente le pareti per quasi sei mesi. L’intero spazio diventa la culla di un’idea artistica che muore dopo sei mesi: dieci opere per ogni artista, serigrafie e t-shirt con disegni unici realizzati in esclusiva dagli artisti in mostra e che nella sua ultima sala raccontano sulle pareti un’idea realizzata a più mani e che dopo sei mesi muore per rinascere.

La prima mostra, The End Is the Beginning, esplica per intero l’archetipo di inizio e di fine.

E piovve sulla terra per quaranta giorni e quaranta notti: le acque crebbero e sollevarono l’arca che si alzò in alto sopra la terra. Le acque si innalzarono sempre più sopra la terra e coprirono tutti i monti più alti che sono sotto tutto il cielo. (Genesi 7,17 7,19)

Il racconto biblico dell’arca di Noè ha ispirato gli artisti Lucamaleonte e David Diavù Vecchiato nella realizzazione di venti opere su legno che rivelano il loro concetto di inizio e di fine, di morte e di salvezza. Ogni artista sulle sue tavole spezzate ha riportato la tragedia della fine spiegandola come un punto di rinascita, un’Omega che si confonde con l’Alfa stringendosi a essa come in un abbraccio che è di amore e di morte.

L’artista, come una Cassandra, riesce a vedere la miseria dell’uomo, ha nella sue mani la consapevolezza della distruzione e insieme a essa anche la determinazione della salvezza: la sua arte. Lucamaleonte e David Diavù Vecchiato hanno creato un immaginario speculare in cui la distruzione diventa salvezza, in cui la natura ordinata diventa aggressiva e confusa e prende vita mentre la sta perdendo. I colori delle venti opere in mostra sono l’ennesima contrapposizione proposta dai due artisti che nella sala finale usano il bianco e il nero per spiegare la vita e la morte.

Così fu sterminato ogni essere che era sulla terra: con gli uomini, gli animali domestici, i rettili e gli uccelli del cielo; essi furono sterminati dalla terra e rimase solo Noè e chi stava con lui nell’arca. (Genesi 7,23)

Sacripante Art Gallery è il nuovo spazio del rione Monti di Roma che dedica la sua ricerca nelal LowBrow Art per la volontà e l’attenzione dei titolari: Alessandro Cattedra, Carlotta e Giorgia Cerulli.

On the 6th November 2014 Sacripante Art Gallery opens with its first exhibition curated by Rossana Calbi & Giulia Piccioni: The End Is the Beginning with artists Lucamaleonte and David Diavù Vecchiato.

Sacripante Gallery opening on Thursday 6th November at 6,30 pm, a new art gallery situated in the Monti area, specialised in Lowbrow Art. The first artists showcased are Lucamaleonte and David Diavù Vecchiato.

The space mixes baroque interior design with rough cement and becomes the base of a bold curatorial project: two annual exhibitions, a focus on the artists who literally invade the walls for 6 months. The entire environment becomes a cradle for an artistic idea which dies after six months: ten artworks for each artists, serigraphies and t-shirts with drawings exclusively realised by the two artists who, on the walls of the last room, tell a story that after six months dies to be reborn.

Sacripante Gallery’s first exhibition, The End Is the Beginning, is about the archetype of beginning and end.

For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. (Genesis 7,17 7,19)

The biblical recount of Noah’s Ark inspired Lucamaleonte and David Diavù Vecchiato to realise twenty artworks on wood which reveal their concept of beginning and end, death and salvation. Each artist recreates on broken boards the tragedy of the ending which is seen as a point of rebirth, an Omega merging with the Alpha in a love and death embrace.

As a Cassandra, the artist is able to see human misery and is aware of the destruction but also of the consequent salvation given by his art. Lucamaleonte and David Diavù Vecchiato created a specular imaginary space where destruction turns into salvation and the quiet nature becomes aggressive and confused, coming into life just as it is dying. The coloured artworks showcased in Sacripante Gallery are another contrast offered by the two artists who use the black and white for the wall to explain the mistery of life and death.

Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. (Genesis 7,23)

Sacripante Art Gallery is a new space located in the Monti area of Rome. The gallery dedicates its research to Lowbrow Art thanks to the will of its owners: Alessandro Cattedra, Carlotta e Giorgia Cerulli.

Lucamaleonte

[ITA] L’artista romano Lucamaleonte si muove dal 2001 nell’ambito della urban art, e dopo il primo approccio al muralismo con la stencil art approfondisce le tecniche di pittura più classica mosso anche dai suoi studi presso l’Istituto Centrale per il Restauro. Il suo percorso artistico parte dai muri di Roma e invade le gallerie italiane e straniere. Negli ultimi anni la sua produzione è stata affiancata al lavoro di curatori come Gianluca Marziani, direttore del museo Collicola di Spoleto, che ha seguito la realizzazione della facciata del centro culturale Castel di Lama per Sale Festival. Nel 2014 con la collaborazione della galleria Die Mauer; Lucamaleonte partecipa a Prato Contemporanea e nello stesso anno con la 999 Gallery realizza la sua personale UNDERDOG ed è uno degli artisti della collettiva URBAN LEGEND al MACRO. Ha la sua firma uno dei murali all’interno della fermata della metropolitana di Piazza di Spagna a Roma.

[ENG] Since 2001 Roman artist Lucamaleonte has been working in the urban art context first with the use of stencil art and then with a more classical painting techniques thanks to his studies at the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro. His artistic path starts from the walls of Rome and spreads into Italian and foreign art galleries. In these last years his production was supported by curators such as Gianluca Marzani, director of Collicola Museum in Spoleto, who realised the front wall of the cultural centre Castel di Lama for Sale Festival. In 2014 he collaborated with Die Mauer gallery and he partecipated to Prato Contemporanea. In the same year he realised his solo show UNDERDOG at 999 Gallery. He is also part of the URBAN LEGEND collective at MACRO. Lucamaleonte’s signature art is also on one of the walls of Spagna metro station in Rome.

David Diavù Vecchiato

[ITA] David Diavù Vecchiato vive e lavora a Roma, la sua produzione artistica nell’underground inizia negli anni ’90 con la realizzazione di magazine indipendenti di fumetti e musica. Il suo lavoro come fumettista e illustratore arriva sulle pagine di «La Repubblica», «Alias» e «Il Fatto Quotidiano», per quest’ultimo dall’estate del 2014 scrive la rubrica RiFatto. La sua produzione artistica si mescola con l’attività curatoriale: crea il progetto MondoPop assieme a Serena Melandri ed è l’ideatore del progetto Urban Superstar Show e di M.U.Ro. Dalla sua prima personale al Leoncavallo di Milano in occasione dell’Happening Internazionale Underground i suoi lavori sono stati esposti al MADRE di Napoli e alla Galleria Provinciale di Cosenza. Di recente il suo progetto La Piccola Bellezza, dopo la prima tappa all’Hangar Tattoo Studio & Art Gallery, è arrivato al Komikazen Festival di Ravenna.

[ENG] David Diavù Vecchiato lives and works in Rome. His artistic production starts in the underground world during the 90s with the realisation of independents music magazines and comics. Vecchiato’s works as a cartoonist arrives on the pages of “La Repubblica”, “Alias” and “Il Fatto Quotidiano” for which he has been writing the column RiFatto since summer 2014. He alternates the art production with a more curatorial aspect: he created MondoPop project together with Serena Melandri, Urban Superstar Show and M.U.R.O. Since his first solo show at Leoncavallo in Milan for the Happening Internazionale Underground, his artworks have been showcased at the MADRE in Naples and Galleria Provinciale in Cosenza. Recently, his project La Piccola Bellezza has been displayed at the Hangar Tattoo Studio Art Gallery and at the Komikazen Festival in Ravenna.
