Martin Parr – The Amalfi Coast

Nel suo ultimo progetto commissionato dallo Studio Trisorio, Parr ha focalizzato il suo sguardo acuto e ironico sui comportamenti sociali nella città di Napoli e in alcune famose mete turistiche del Golfo come Capri, Sorrento, Amalfi, Pompei. Giovedì 27 novembre 2014 alle ore 19.00, si inaugura presso lo Studio Trisorio, in via Riviera di Chiaia 215 a Napoli, una personale del fotografo Martin Parr.

Nel suo ultimo progetto commissionato dallo Studio Trisorio, Parr ha focalizzato il suo sguardo acuto e ironico sui comportamenti sociali nella città di Napoli e in alcune famose mete turistiche del Golfo come Capri, Sorrento, Amalfi, Pompei. Ha osservato come le diverse classi sociali vivono un giorno in spiaggia e ha seguito i turisti fra reperti archeologici e luoghi icona del Grand Tour.

Fin dagli anni Novanta Martin Parr indaga sul consumismo inteso come ideologia paradossale della società contemporanea. Con umorismo freddo e graffiante descrive le abitudini, i gusti e gli stereotipi più comuni, mettendo in evidenza il lato grottesco di alcuni comportamenti sociali. La sua è soprattutto una riflessione sulla fotografia come mezzo di rappresentazione del reale in un mondo in cui il confine fra la realtà e i suoi cliché è sempre più labile.

Biografia

Martin Parr è nato nel 1952 a Epsom, in Inghilterra.
È presidente dell’agenzia Magnum Photographic Corporation della quale fa parte dal 1994.

Le sue fotografie si trovano in numerose collezioni pubbliche internazionali come l’Arts Council of Great Britain, la Bibliothèque Nationale di Parigi, il Paul Ghetty Center di Los Angeles, il MOMA di New York, il Museum of Modern Art di San Francisco, il Los Angeles County Museum, la Tate Modern di Londra.
A partire dagli anni ’80 Martin Parr ha pubblicato circa cinquanta cataloghi.
Nel giugno 2009 la Galleria nazionale Jeu de Paume di Parigi gli ha dedicato la mostra Planéte Parr in cui, insieme alle più note fotografie dell’artista, sono state esposte le sue collezioni di oggetti strani ed eterocliti che riflettono la vacuità della società consumista.

On Thursday 27 November, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., the inauguration of a solo exhibit by the photographer Martin Parr will be held at the Studio Trisorio, via Riviera di Chiaia 215 in Naples.

In his last project commissioned by the Studio Trisorio, Parr focused his piercing, ironic gaze on social behaviour in the city of Naples and in some of the most famous tourist sites in the Bay such as Capri, Sorrento, Amalfi and Pompeii. He observes how various social classes experience a day on the beach and follows tourists as they visit archaeological ruins and the iconic sites of the Grand Tour.

Since the Nineties, Martin Parr has explored the concept of consumerism intended as a paradoxical ideology of contemporary society. With his dry, scathing humour, he describes the most common habits, tastes and stereotypes and places emphasis on the more grotesque aspects of some social behaviour. Above all, his work is a representation of reality in a world where the boundary between reality and its stereotypes is becoming progressively blurred.

Biography

Martin Parr was born in Epsom, England in 1952.
Currently President of the Magnum Photographic Corporation of which he has been a member since 1994.
His photographs are part of numerous international public collections including the Arts Council in Great Britain, the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, the Paul Ghetty Center in Los Angeles, the MOMA in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, the Los Angeles County Museum and the Tate Modern in London.
Since the 1980s, Martin Parr has published some fifty catalogues.
In June, 2009, the Jeu de Paume National Gallery in Paris dedicated an exhibit, Planéte Parr, to his work in which, the artist’s collection of strange, heteroclite objects reflecting the hollowness of consumer society were shown together with the his most well known photographs.
