From 14 October 2017 to 7 January 2018, the CAMeC Center of Modern and Contemporary Art presents the project Stone House by Gumdesign. The exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday 14 October at 6 p.m., on the occasion of the 13th edition of Contemporary Day. Curated by Cinzia Compalati, the exhibition includes about 150 objects created by the designers Gabriele Pardi and Laura Fiaschi. Thirty already-existing collections will be presented with another dozen or so specially made for this exhibition, which will become part of The Stone House. Thus with this project the Center, whose declared mission is not only to protect, improve and promote the civic collections but also to promote contemporary languages in all their forms, hosts one of the edgiest exponents of the language of design on the current international scene.

As Paola Carimati wrote in Elle Decor on 24 October 2014: “It is a fascinating project constructed around the concepts of house and stone and arising from a precise reflection: how to bring stone back into the home?”. “With the exception of the Arco light of Achille Castiglioni, with time this material has abandoned our houses”, recounts Gabriele. Thus, marble in the hands of Gumdesign rediscovers all its expressive force, transforming itself into a useful and at the same time conceptual domestic presence. “At the center of the project is Paesaggio (Landscape), an infinite carpet made up of seven different types of stone mosaic tile, whose shape recalls that of a little stylized house”. The pattern takes its inspiration from the tip of the blade used for the cutting and set into a wooden block. “Fascinated by the simplicity of this tool, which reminded us of the essentiality and honesty of a primitive landscape made up of a cabin isolated on the mountaintop, we thought how we might translate these values into a more contemporary idea of home design”.

Thus a collection was born, consisting initially of 12 little objects, then growing over 2½ years into over 100 products and a partnership of 30 companies, whose pure and archetypical form reflects a significant stage of human evolution.

Awarded the Best Communicator Award 2014 by a prestigious jury during Marmomacc, and now selected in the Adi Design Index 2106 and competing for the Compasso d’Oro (Golden Compass) for Company Research, The Stone House is a cultural and entrepreneurial project which with the CAMeC has now reached its 14th exhibition.
