Comunicato stampa

Joana Escoval (1982, Lisbona, Portogallo) vive e lavora a Lisbona.

“I’m interested in observing and contemplating all natural phenomena without division between the human being and the world around us.” JE

Chapter X of Journal presents, for the first time in Italy, Living Metals (sunset) by Joana Escoval, a video of a sun setting combines various different audio elements. At the center of the poetic of this work is the tangibility of the sounds produced by nature and its energy, like the wind playing with the strings of an electric guitar in Stromboli and the ambient sound within the crater of a volcano in Iceland.

At the heart of her research lies our relationship with world we inhabit and our interconnection with it. Her practice circumscribes both visual and aural in the form of sculpture, collective walks and installations, Her sculptural works are fusions of pure metals like silver, copper and alloys like bronze and brass, fused and moulded by the artist herslef meticulously. The forms, which recall natural elements – the sun, the stars and sound waves - bend and reshape themselves, vibrating to their specific ambient conditions.
Joana Escoval (1982, Lisbon, Portugal) lives and works in Lisbon. Her work has been presented in solo and group show internationally and is included in many public and private collections.
