Galleria Ramo is pleased to present a collective exhibition; In the flesh: intimate perspectives on the collective, featuring; Lucrezia Costa (1996, Italia), Ilaria Cuccagna (1981, Italia) e Gianna Dispenza (1991, USA).
The interpretation of the human figure, as a complex and multifaceted identity, is addressed by the artists presently exhibition in this show. Different hybrids and multidisciplinary practices; can be seen as the starting point for a tension that takes shape in the sensitive and intimate sphere of an individual. A shared attempt to understand a wider, plural dimension is born. The material, skilfully worked and modeled according to a process often hidden within the form, becomes the means by which emotional impulses experienced for the first time create a liminal state between personal and collective memory. Thus, each work is to be considered as a real microcosm, within which the subjects escape any form of pre-existing aesthetic or cultural construct, recontextualizing the signs and symbols from the past. The works manifest themselves thanks to the physical encounter with the observer, a condition identifiable between interiority and silence: an intimate vibration tries to rise outwards, partially filling the constitutive void of the human condition. Deepened in the research of Lucrezia Costa, who through the creation of a real participatory archive of pain, reflects on the value of interiority and feelings considered negative by the productive dynamics of contemporary society, which often tends to hide any form of apparent uselessness. In the same way, albeit with a different meaning, the practice of Gianna Dispenza insists on the value of feelings, through which she reinterprets recurring archetypes in the history of art and more generally in the historical and social fabric of society. Using mainly a poor materials such as clay, the artist skilfully weaves natural elements and recycled objects. Once again, with the works of Ilaria Cuccagna the material is fused, superimposed and recontextualised. Contrasting the transience of contemporary images, his works impose a slow, dilated reading time, in order to reawaken a visual heritage now almost forgotten and revitalized by an interdisciplinary and constantly evolving process, which intertwines scientific and archaeological notions.
Lucrezia Costa, tries to slip into the cracks of the unknown and bring to the surface lost fragments of the subconscious lost in the depths of the human mind. Exhibited in numerous exhibitions; Palazzo Regione Lombardia, Milan Luogo E, Bergamo, con A.Topos presso SPARC contemporanea, Venice The Hoy Gallery, London e al MUDEC, Milan. Finalist for the 99 future blue-chip artists 2023 prize and has recently published a book with Boîte Editions.
Ilaria Cuccagna, pays particular attention and interest in the history of sculpture or ancient architecture or archeology, giving it a contemporary key. Exhibited in numerous exhibitions; Riccardo Crespi Gallery, Malta Biennale, Luigi Varoli Museo Civico, Spazio Officina M.A.X. Museum e Fondazione Museo Mecrí. In 2019, the artist wins the Young Artists Contest.
Gianna Dispenza focuses on feelings. Her curiosity and tangible approach to finding archetypes is endlessly intriguing: from sunbathers by the sea, or the Herculean athlete.
