The gallery presents Beyond the Figure, a solo exhibition dedicated to Ida Barbarigo (b. Venice, 1925 – d. Venice, 2018), among the most distinctive women artists in twentieth-century Italian painting and who remarkably exhibited four times at the Venice Biennale (1942, 1975, 1978, 1995).
The exhibition focuses on paintings from the 1970s to the early 1990s, when the human figure returned in her work. Works from this period were celebrated by art historian Jean Clair, who included Barbarigo in the Centenary edition of the Venice Biennale. Bringing together self-portraits and mythological subjects drawn from Greco-Roman imagery, the works reveal figures surfacing from dark grounds in a powerful and singular painterly language. Recent museum exhibitions include Museo Eremitani, Padua (2025) and Palazzo Fortuny, Venice (2016).
La galleria presenta Beyond the Figure, una mostra personale dedicata a Ida Barbarigo (b. Venezia, 1925 – d. Venezia, 2018), tra le artiste più distintive della pittura italiana del XX secolo e che ha esposto per ben quattro volte alla Biennale di Venezia (1942, 1975, 1978, 1995).
La mostra si concentra sui dipinti dagli anni Settanta ai primi anni Novanta, quando la figura umana tornò nel suo lavoro. Le opere di questo periodo furono celebrate dallo storico dell’arte Jean Clair, che incluse Barbarigo nell’edizione del Centenario della Biennale di Venezia. Riunendo autoritratti e soggetti mitologici tratti dall’immaginario greco-romano, le opere rivelano figure che emergono da fondi scuri in un linguaggio pittorico potente e singolare. Tra le recenti mostre museali figurano il Museo Eremitani, Padova (2025) e Palazzo Fortuny, Venezia (2016).
