La parola fomento indica in italiano una pulsione incontrollabile che incita a compiere un atto pericoloso e contrario al sentire comune. A Roma, esiste un’altra interpretazione del concetto di fomento che mette in risalto l’energia psichica e fisica sprigionata dalla pulsione, senza valutare le conseguenze dell’azione compiuta. È con quest’ultima accezione che il termine fomento è comparso nell’Hip Hop romano negli anni ’80 per definire un atteggiamento psicologico creativo e propositivo, che si è tramandato come un caposaldo tra i writers nel corso degli anni ’90 e, successivamente, tra gli street artists romani degli anni 2000.
La società identifica le pulsioni dei writers e degli street artists come qualcosa di dannoso e come il frutto di una devianza psicologica. Per questo, partendo dalla lettura romana del concetto di fomento, un anno e mezzo fa, dietro l’incoraggiamento di Christian Omodeo e con il sostegno di Le Grand Jeu e della Galo Art Gallery, JBRock e Hogre hanno deciso di immaginare un progetto espositivo che desse forma e visibilità ad un’interpretazione psicologica alternativa e positiva del Writing e della Street Art. Il punto di partenza della mostra Fomento è stata un’analisi del rapporto che entrambi intrattengono da anni – il primo dal 1993, il secondo dal 2006 – con la bomboletta aerosol e con il cutter, lo strumento base della tecnica della Stencil Art. La mostra vuole inoltre chiarire agli occhi di tutti che i Graffiti e la Street Art non aspirano sempre a essere identificati come un fatto artistico, ma sono immancabilmente un’attitudine psicologica positiva nei confronti della vita e della strada.
JBRock e Hogre hanno moltiplicato i punti di approdo al loro tema di riflessione. Per questo, il progetto Fomento include, oltre ad una mostra con oltre 30 opere inedite su tela e su carta allestita negli spazi della Galo Art Gallery, un’installazione in una delle celle del carcere sede della fiera The Others. Il progetto proseguirà con tre interventi di arte pubblica destinati a lasciare una traccia permanente su dei muri messi a disposizione dal Bunker e dagli organizzatori di Picturin. L’atto finale sarà il concerto al Bunker dei Colle der Fomento, presenti a Torino in concomitanza con la mostra per creare un parallelo tra versante sonoro e visivo del fomento romano.

The word fomento in Italian means an uncontrollable compulsion that makes you commit an act dangerous and contrary to the common sentiment. In Rome, there is another interpretation of the concept of fomento that emphasizes the psychic energy released by impulse, without considering the consequences of the action. It is in the latter sense that the term fomento appeared in the Roman Hip Hop scene in the '80s to define a creative and proactive attitude, which has been handed down as a landmark among the writers in the '90s and, later, between the Roman street artists of the 2000s.
The society identifies the impulses of graffiti writers and street artists as something harmful and as the result of a psychological deviance . For this reason, starting from the reading of the Roman concept of fomento, a year and a half ago, after the encouragement of Christian Omodeo and with the support of Le Grand Jeu and Galo Art Gallery, JBRock and Hogre have decided to collaborate on an exhibition project that gives shape and visibility to alternative and positive psychological interpretation of Writing and Street Art. The starting point of the exhibition Fomento was an analysis of the relationship between the artists that both have been on the scene for years - JBRock since 1993, Hogre since 2006 - with the spray can and cutter, the basic tools of the technique for Stencil Art. The exhibition also aims to clarify the eyes that not all the Graffiti and Street Art is aimed to aspire to be identified as an artistic movement, but they are customarily a psychological positive attitude towards life and our surroundings.
Not only will JBRock and Hogre be doing an exhibition with all new unseen artworks and installations in the Galo Art Gallery, but also do an installation with art works at The Others art fair.
The project will continue with three public art projects that will leave a permanent mark on the walls made available by Bunker and the organizers of PICTURIN. The final act will be a concert at Bunker by the Colle der Fomento from Rome, present in Turin in conjunction with the exhibition to create a parallel between the sound and visual side of the “FOMENTO” Romano.
