26.11.2016 - Starting from 9 pm - Via Martiri 14/16/18/20 Vittorio Veneto

CODALUNGA, Nico Vascellari's studio in Vittorio Veneto - opened in 2005 and devoted to visual and sound experimentation - is glad to announce the first event of its new season.

BANKS VIOLETTE (New York) is the first artist of the season invited to create a specific artwork for the outer windows of Codalunga. Inside the space, a drawing of the artist is displayed along the drawings, letters and documents collection of the American rock'n'roll singer GG Allin. The exhibition is combined with a fanzine edited by Heinzfeller Nileisist, New York, which collects artworks by GG Allin, Nico Vascellari and Banks Violette and texts by Alissa Bennet and Nico Vascellari.

The evening schedule includes live concerts by RON MORELLI (New York) and LOW JACK (Paris) and a vocal collaboration between GHEDALIA TAZARTES (Paris) and NICO VASCELLARI for the performance "Bus De La Lum".

Banks Violette (b. 1973 in Ithaca, NY) lives and works in Brooklyn. Violette studied at Columbia University and the School of Visual Arts in New York, and has been well represented institutionally since the mid-2000s. The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York held a solo exhibition of his work in 2004. With his shiny black sculptures and his hyperrealist drawings – often linked to the New Gothic Art movement – he has recourse to Heavy Metal iconography on both the formal, aesthetic and content level. He exemplifies the symbolism of death and decay, fluctuating between beauty and cruelty, as in scenes used by the subcultures of black metal music. Here, the dark recesses and absurdities of American society provide the thematic basis of his work.
He participated in the “Greater New York” exhibition at PS1 Center for Contemporary Art in New York and “USA Today” at the Royal Academy in London. His work is featured in several prominent collections including the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain Geneva, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Saatchi Gallery in London, and MOMA and the Guggenheim Museum, both in New York.

Banks Violette (1973, Ithaca, NY) vive e lavora a Brooklyn.
