La mostra raccoglie disegni e fotografie di alcuni dei più importanti lavori dello studio Bollinger+Grohmann degli ultimi dieci anni.

Baukunst, parola usata in tedesco anche al posto di architettura, in verità comprende cont emporaneamente nel suo significato letterale le due componenti: quella tecnica (Bau) e quella artistica (Kunst).

Baukunst come arte del costruire, tende a elevare e a portare alla luce, il lavoro e il contributo specifico dell’ingegneria, non subordinato e non alternativo a quello dell’architettura. Un lavoro che utilizza metodi e strumenti autonomi, che va oltre il mero scopo di “tenere in piedi un edificio” e che lavora alla struttura in modo integrato e parallelo al processo di elaborazione della forma e della costruzione.

I 10 progetti costituiscono il corpo di un’istallazione che prova a rendere visibile il processo di elaborazione dei concetti strutturali fino a tutto il lavoro di supporto e informazione tecnica che sta alla base del processo di costruzione.

Questi materiali, disegni esecutivi originali, fotografie di lavoro e di cantiere, disegni di concetti, ipotesi, verifiche e modelli, seppure “invisibili” a edificio completato, costituiscono un corpo di possibilità e prove che strutturano e fondano la “condizione di esistenza” di questi manufatti.
I disegni e le fotografie, nonostante la loro oggettività di contenuto e di informazione, proprio perché estremamente astratti, acquisiscono, fuori dal loro originario uso tecnico, una propria autonomia di senso, di contenuto, e una nuova e diversa qualità figurativa.

Manfred Grohmann, co-fondatore con Klaus Bollinger dello studio BOLLINGER+GROHMANN, professore di progettazione strutturale nella Facoltà di Architettura, Urbanistica e Paesaggio presso l’Università di Kassel, nonché coordinatore ERASMUS per lo scambio di studenti tra i corsi di laurea di Architettura di Palermo e Kassel, mercoledì 9 marzo, alle ore 9:00, nell’aula magna del Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università di Palermo (edificio 14, Viale delle Scienze) terrà una lectio dal titolo:

Architettura e Ingegneria… una storia d’amore.

Lo studio di ingegneria BOLLINGER+GROHMANN è stato fondato nel 1983 a Francoforte sul Meno in Germania, dagli ingegneri Klaus Bollinger e Manfred Grohmann. Lo studio si occupa di progettazione di strutture sperimentali, innovative e sostenibili, di progettazione esecutiva e dei processi di realizzazione fino al dettaglio.
Partner di progetto e consulenti di alcuni tra i più noti studi di architettura; oggi lo studio conta circa 180 collaboratori.
Oltre alla sede di Francoforte sul Meno, lo studio ha sedi a Berlino, Vienna, Parigi, Oslo, Monaco, Melbourne e uffici di progetto a
Bruxelles e a Roma.

KLAUS BOLLINGER (PhD) è Professore di progettazione strutturale nella Università di Arte Applicata di Vienna, dove è stato preside della Scuola di Architettura dal 1999 al 2003. Guest Professor alla Städelschule di Francoforte sul Meno (200-2005).

MANFRED GROHMANN è professore di progettazione strutturale nella Facoltà di Architettura, Urbanistica e Paesaggio
presso l’Università di Kassel, dove dirige il Dipartimento di Sistemi strutturali; Honarary Professor all’Università di Nottingham UK, e Honorary Enterprise Professor alla Università di Melbourne, Australia. Coordinatore ERASMUS per lo scambio di studenti tra i corsi di laurea di Architettura di Palermo e Kassel.

Baukunst, a word used in German also as an synonym of architecture, includes in its literal meaning both components: the technical one (Bau) and the artistic one (Kunst).
Baukunst as the art of building, tends to elevate and bring to light the specific work and contribution brought about by engineering, which is not subordinate or alternative to the architectural one. A work that uses autonomous methods and tools, which goes beyond the mere purpose of “making buildings stand up” and which combines the structural design with the shape and construction process.

The exhibition brings together drawings and photographs of some of the most important works of the office BOLLINGER + GROHMANN from the last ten years.

The 10 projects constitute the object of an installation that aims at making visible the process of elaboration of the structural concepts, including all the work of support and technical information that forms the basis of the construction process.

These materials, original drawings, building-site photographs, sketches of concepts, hypotheses, tests and models, although "invisible" when the building is completed, constitute a body of possibilities and trials which structure and give foundations to the "condition of existence" of these artifacts.

Despite the objectivity of their content and information, the drawings and photographs seen outside of their original technical use, acquire their own autonomous meaning and content, as well as a new and different formal quality because of their extreme abstraction.

The engineering office BOLLINGER + GROHMANN was founded in 1983 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, by engineers Klaus Bollinger and Manfred Grohman. The office deals with the design of experimental, innovative and sustainable structures, with execution and technical planning and with the construction process, down to the details.
Project partners and consultants to some of the best-known architectural firms, today the office has around 180 employees.
Besides its headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, the firm has offices in Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Paris, Oslo, Melbourne and project offices in Brussels and in Rome.

KLAUS BOLLINGER (PhD) is a professor of structural engineering at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna; Dean of the School of Architectur (1999-2003). Guest professor at the Städelschule in Frankfurt (2000-2005)

MANFRED GROHMANN is a professor of structural engineering at the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Landscape at the University of Kassel; Head of the Structural Systems Department; Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham, UK; Honorary Enterprise Professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Coordinator of the Erasmus exchange of architecture students between Palermo and Kassel.
