Andrea Marioni – Ekonization. Hello My Friend

Interrogandosi e interrogandoci sul senso dell’azione umanitaria e sul ruolo dell’artista di fronte alla tragedia, Marioni dà voce a coloro che tutto il mondo tratta con disuguaglianza, restituendo dignità a chi è consapevole di averla, ma di non vederla riconosciuta.

Andrea Marioni ha passato nove mesi per l'Europa, due dei quali in Grecia, in cui ha visitato diversi campi di accoglienza per rifugiati e vissuto per un po' di tempo in alcuni in essi. I perché di questo periplo sono, come spesso in questi casi, molteplici; le motivazioni, sfocate. Ma ha poi davvero importanza, capire cosa spinge un individuo ad interrogarsi sul suo presente, al voler toccare con mano una situazione che sa esistere, ma della quale non ha esperienza diretta? L'importante, se proprio si vorrà trovare, è come questo viaggio, plasmando chi lo intraprende, viene poi trasmesso e comunicato ad altri. Nasce così un primo capitolo dal nome Ekonization – Hello my friend, dedicato al periodo che il giovane artista ticinese ha trascorso a Eko.

Eko camp o Eko station, a Polikastro nei pressi di Idomeni, era un campo informale, indipendente, gestito da un gruppo di volontari internazionali. Eko e i suoi abitanti, profughi e non, ha “colonizzato” il sentire e il vedere di Marioni, la sua stessa consapevolezza di sé e del mondo. Il titolo di questa mostra, Ekonization – Hello my friend, presenta la crasi di Eko e “colonization”; colonizzazione che vale non solo come appena detto, sul piano personale, ma anche, in senso specifico, riferita alla vita nel campo, insistendo sull'aspetto antropologico della creazione di comunità come quella di Eko, che hanno come inno la frase “Hello my friend”.

Ekonization – Hello my friend rifiuta l'estetica stereotipata legata al consueto immaginario del campo profughi, negando qualsiasi aspetto documentario ai fatti vissuti. Andrea Marioni ci invita a lasciarci colonizzare da Eko attraverso oggetti e riferimenti attinti alla realtà, ma sui quali ciascuno può costruire la propria storia: interrogandosi e interrogandoci sul senso dell'azione umanitaria e sul ruolo dell'artista di fronte alla tragedia, Marioni dà voce a coloro che tutto il mondo tratta con disuguaglianza, restituendo dignità a chi è consapevole di averla, ma di non vederla riconosciuta.

La mostra, che apre venerdì 10 febbraio alle ore 18 alla rada a Locarno, sarà visibile fino all'11 marzo, ed è curata da Riccardo Lisi con la collaborazione di Elisa Rusca, che ne firma il testo di sala.

Il finissage di sabato 11 marzo vedrà anche una conferenza-performance di Andrea Marioni, dalle ore 18.45.

Ma già sabato 4 febbraio, dalle ore 17, è possibile partecipare all'assemblea ordinaria annuale della rada,

La rada continua a perseguire un percorso di sviluppo, anche partecipando dall'inizio al progetto del Forum socio-culturale del Locarnese, che presto darà vita a un polo culturale presso la ex Casa d'Italia - sempre a Locarno - dove nascerà anche una residenza artistica dotata di un grande atelier, impiegabile come sala espositiva ulteriore.
Va precisato che la rada proseguirà comunque le sue attività nella sede dove si trova da 25 mesi, presso lo stabile Swisscom, Un'attività costante e fitta, che vedrà anche nel 2017 otto esposizioni di arte contemporanea, tutte prodotte dalla rada.

Andrea Marioni spent nine months around Europe, two of which in Greece, where he visited several refugee camps and occasionally lived in some of them. As often in these cases, the reasons of this circumnavigation are many, and its motivations are blurry. Yet is it really important to understand what drives an individual to question its present, wanting to see with his own eyes a situation, which existence exists, but that he has no direct experience of? The clue point it is how this trip, shaping the one who is taking it, is then transmitted and communicated to others. Ekonization - Hello my friend is the first chapter, dedicated to the period that this young artist from Ticino spent at Eko.

Eko camp, or Eko station, in Polikastro near Idomeni, was an informal independent field, run by a group of international volunteers. Eko and its inhabitants - refugees and not - has "colonized" the feeling and the vision by Marioni, his own awareness of himself and the world. The title of this exhibition, Ekonization - Hello my friend, presents the portmanteau of Eko and "colonization"; colonization that is not only approached on a personal level, but also, in a specific sense, refers to the life in the field, insisting on the anthropological creation of communities such as Eko, that have as a hymn the phrase "Hello my friend".

The project rejects the stereotypical aesthetics linked to the usual imagery of the refugee camp, denying any documentary aspect of the experience. Andrea Marioni invites us to let be colonized by Eko through objects and references drawn from reality, but on which everyone can build his own story: inquiring and questioning the meaning of humanitarian action and the artist's role in the face of tragedy, Marioni gives voice to those around the world dealing with inequality, restoring dignity to those who are aware of it, but do not recognize it.

The exhibition will open on Friday the 10th of February at 6pm at la rada in Locarno and will be visible until March the 11th. It is curated by Riccardo Lisi, in collaboration with Elisa Rusca, who wrote the text.

On the closing event on Sunday the 11th of March la rada will host a conference-performance by the artist (from 6.45pm).

La rada continues to pursue a development path, also participating since its beginning in the project of the Socio-cultural Forum of Locarno Region, that soon will create a cultural center at the former Casa d'Italia - always in Locarno - where will born an artistic residency equipped with a large atelier, usable as an additional exhibition hall.
It should be noted that la rada however continues its activities in the location where it is since 25 months ago, at the Swisscom stable. A firm and dense activity, which in 2017 will also see eight exhibitions of contemporary art, all produced by la rada.
