Che cosa sono passato, presente e futuro, se non prodotti della nostra percezione?
Esiste solo una realtà sempre uguale e percepita come tale da tutti gli individui oppure esistono molteplici realtà, che cambiano da persona a persona?
La visione è un processo che si ferma alla sensazione della forma, del colore e del movimento, oppure è un fenomeno multicomponenziale che coinvolge solo in minima parte gli occhi?

Numero Cromatico il 19 giugno 2021 apre al pubblico Tre Scenari sulla Percezione del Tempo: La Memoria, La Visione, L’Attesa, un progetto espositivo ambientale e immersivo, ad opera del collettivo, inteso come un percorso a tappe e sempre mutevole. Le opere presenti e la mostra stessa cambieranno giorno dopo giorno a partire da tre principali scenari, tre momenti di attivazione, così da invitare i visitatori a farvi ritorno e viverne le evoluzioni e la crescita.
Non si tratta di una mostra nel senso comune del termine, ma piuttosto di un’esperienza estetica polisensoriale che muove le proprie basi dalla ricerca artistica e scientifica del gruppo, attivo su questi temi dal 2011.

Le tre tappe della mostra - La Memoria, La Visione, L’Attesa - verranno presentate, in successione, dal 19 giugno al 19 dicembre 2021.
Come sede è stato scelto un luogo chiuso da molti anni e riaperto per l’occasione, uno spazio molto peculiare adiacente al Cimitero Monumentale del Verano a Roma, nella storica area degli artigiani marmisti.
Nello spazio predisposto dal collettivo si alterneranno diversi dispositivi che dialogheranno tra loro e con il contesto, permettendo al pubblico di vivere un’esperienza percettiva sinestetica e introspettiva.
Il luogo diventa esso stesso opera, scenario appunto, una cappella privata che accoglie e integra in sé diversi elementi, portando a riflettere sul rapporto tra opera d’arte e fruitore, tra essere umano e ambiente, tra natura e artificio.
Un progetto in cui la tipica dicotomia naturale-artificiale lascia spazio alla coesistenza: in cui la tecnologia è intesa come strumento e non come fine, come mezzo per costruire e non come oggetto da rappresentare.

Durante tutto il periodo della mostra è previsto lo svolgimento di un esperimento di neuroestetica, al quale sarà possibile partecipare previa prenotazione nei modi e nei tempi che saranno comunicati attraverso i canali web di Numero Cromatico.

Numero Cromatico è un centro di ricerca e produzione artistica fondato a Roma e compie proprio quest’anno 10 anni di attività. Un gruppo di ricercatori provenienti dal mondo delle arti visive e delle neuroscienze che fonda la propria ricerca su un approccio scientifico all'arte, con particolare attenzione alle più recenti scoperte neuroscientifiche e ad ambiti quali la neuroestetica, l’estetica empirica, la psicologia sperimentale, la letteratura e la comunicazione visiva.

What are the past, the present and the future, if not mere products of our perception?
Is there a single never-changing reality perceived as such by all human beings or are there multiple realities differing from person to person?
Is vision limited to the sense of shape, colour and movement, or is it a multicomponential phenomenon that only marginally involves the eyes?

On June 19th, 2021, Numero Cromatico opens to the public Tre Scenari sulla Percezione del Tempo: La Memoria, La Visione, L’Attesa, an environmental and immersive exhibition project by the collective, conceived as an ever-changing journey that proceeds in stages. The exhibited artworks and the exhibition itself will change as time goes by, starting from three main scenarios, three moments of activation for the viewers. The public will thus be encouraged to come back and witness the evolution and growth of the exhibition itself.
It is not intended as an exhibition in the usual sense of the word, but rather as a multisensory aesthetic experience sparking from the group’s artistic and scientific research, which has been delving on these topics since 2011.

The three stages of the exhibition - La Memoria, La Visione, L’Attesa - will be presented in sequence, from June 19th to December 19th, 2021.
The chosen venue is a place that had been closed for many years and reopened for the occasion - a very peculiar space near the Cimitero Monumentale del Verano in Rome, in the historical area of the marble workers.
In the space designed by the collective various artefacts will rotate, engaged in a dialogue with one another as well as with the context, allowing the public to live a synesthetic and introspective experience.
The venue itself becomes a work of art, a scenario, a private chapel that gathers and embeds various elements, leading us to reflect on the relationship between artwork and spectator, human being and environment, nature and artifice.
It is a project in which the basic dichotomy natural-artificial paves the way for coexistence, where technology is intended as a means and not as an end, as a tool to build and not as an object to represent.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition an experiment in neuroaesthetics will be carried out. Those interested in taking part in the experiment are kindly invited to book an appointment according to the guidelines posted on Numero Cromatico’s web pages.

Numero Cromatico is an artistic research and production centre established in Rome celebrating 10 years of activity. It is a group of researchers with a background in both visual arts and neuroscience that moves from a scientific approach to art, with a focus on the most recent neuroscientific discoveries and related disciplines, such as neuroaesthetics, empirical aesthetics, experimental psychology, literature and visual communication.
