STEFANO BOCCALINI | DO WE KNOW?

October 6, 2025, | January 26, 2026
Visible 24 hours a day | Via Aleardo Aleardi 11, Milan

Opening: October 6, 2025, 6:30 PM

SCONFINA was born from the dialogue between Rossana Ciocca and Helga Franza.
Project partner: Fondazione Arthur Cravan, Milan.

Starting on 6 October, Stefano Boccalini will invite passers-by, citizens and visitors to shift their gaze and their thoughts through eight questions, installed in the window display at Via Aleardi 11. As in a flow of visual communication, the works will alternate every two weeks, one after the other. Eight sculptures, eight questions that over the course of four months will become matter and take public form: eight reflections that, over time, will accompany us in rethinking our relationships; eight communication devices that will transform the window space into a place for discussion and debate.

Do we know how to look? Do we know how to wait? Do we know how to learn? Do we know how to lose? Do we know how to think? Do we know how to desire? Do we know how to rejoice? Do we know how to understand?

These questions interrogate the relationship we have with the context we live in, urging us to reflect on the way we move through our lives. They are also questions which, when placed in a public setting, push us to think—or rethink—our relationship with the physical and anthropological spaces that surround us.

Through these questions, public space becomes a site where we can reimagine our relationships and build new possible strategies of cohabitation starting from desire. In his artistic practice, Boccalini restores value, memory, and specific weight to words and language. Each of his works offers an occasion for reflection, listening, and the building of community relations. For many years, the artist has explored the possibility of thinking together with communities, aware that thought is never one-sided, choosing to listen to the local rather than the global.

A question, placed at the threshold of public space, thus opens the possibility of reconsidering our relationships: words attempting to reconstruct new ways of cohabiting, living spaces, and imagining shared strategies for transforming them into common places.

Through these questions—questions that do not seek definitive answers but openness and listening—Stefano Boccalini transforms SCONFINA into a place where participation means welcoming others and recognizing their value.

SCONFINA | PUBLIC PROGRAM

In November and January, two practices of encounter with the artist are scheduled: opportunities for dialogue, exchange, and reflection on his work and the reality in which he lives and operates.
