Off Side / The State of Making Things

Il grande festival del cinema di Locarno richiama un pubblico che ama sia i film che il suo fascino culturale. Considerando che il Festival Internazionale del Film fornisce un’ampia gamma di film per i cinema, la rada è orgogliosa di offrire un intenso programma di film non-mainstream, come anche stimoli artistici ed una visione dall’interno del filmmaking.

Il grande festival del cinema di Locarno richiama un pubblico che ama sia i film che il suo fascino culturale. Considerando che il Festival Internazionale del Film fornisce un'ampia gamma di film per i cinema, la rada è orgogliosa di offrire un intenso programma di film non-mainstream, come anche stimoli artistici ed una visione dall'interno del filmmaking.
La rada è lo spazio d'arte contemporanea presente al secondo piano delle ex scuole comunali, l'edificio che diverrà Palazzo del Cinema, posto tra la grande rotonda e Piazza Grande.
Venerdì 9 alle 18 vi si apriranno due grandi eventi, con vernissage e party:
la rassegna di “video pamphlet” Off Side, curata da Franco Marinotti – produttore di cinema sperimentale ed organizzatore dei festival Fair Play, a Berlino e Lugano e
il festival di arti performative The State of Making Things – in pratica la produzione di un film d'arte ma che non origina alcun film - curato da Sarah Bernauer, Franziska Glozer e Garrett Nelson (Basilea/Zurigo).
I due eventi, che coinvolgono un gran numero di artisti di alto livello, svizzeri ed internazionali, si svolgeranno ogni sera a partire dalle 18 fino all'una di notte, secondo il programma inserito nel sito www.larada.ch.
E' importante notare che entrambe le programmazioni sono interamente ad ingresso libero.

Off Side è una rassegna-piattaforma di film e video focalizzati sulla relazione tra pratiche artistiche ed azione politica, comprendente sia medio-lungometraggi proiettati ad orari prefissati, che corti e videoinstallazioni in visione continuata su monitor.
I suoi screenings includono lavori di filmmaker come: Zanny Begg & Oliver Ressler, Pavel Braila, Carlos Casas, Chen Chieh-jen, Robert Iolini, Janez Janša, Chiu-han Linda Lai, Armando Lulaj, Angela Melitopoulos, Frédéric Moser & Philippe Schwinger, Deimantas Narkevicius, Ellen Pau, Ibrahim Quraishi, Koka Ramishvili, Mario Rizzi, Yin Shan, Jaan Toomik, Alejandro Vidal, Lo Chun Yip.
Differentemente da una rassegna tradizionale di videoarte, i filmati son stati selezionati anche per il loro contenuto filmico e narrativo, il che permette al pubblico una maggiore partecipazione alle opere proposte.
Alcuni dei registi saranno presenti a Locarno: il pubblico e la stampa potrà incontrarli presso la rada. Il programma specifico sarà visibile nel sito www.fairplay-lugano.com.

The State of Making Things trae naturalmente il titolo dall'importante film di Wenders, Lo stato delle cose. L'accento è posto sullo spazio e sul tempo della realizzazione di un film – il set e lo shooting – ma senza che ciò avvenga. Nel set allestito in una delle due sale della rada, una lunga serie di artisti e performer – in buona parte il meglio della scena svizzera – partiranno dall'opera di Wenders per immaginare la decostruzione di un filmmaking. La documentazione del progetto non sarà filmata ma costituita da un flusso allestitivo e performativo, con testi scritti, eventi e performance dal vivo. Gli artisti partecipanti sono: Annette Amberg, Sarah Bernauer, Domenico Billari, Stefan Burger, Martin Chramosta, Nicolas Dauwalder, Oliver Dolder, Franziska Glozer, Mélodie Mousset, Garrett Nelson, Pop X & Giordano T Rush, Michele Robecchi, Manuel Scheiwiller, Veronika Spierenburg, Mirjam Spoolder, Markus Stähli, Bohdan Stehlik & Una Szeemann, Li Tavor, Agora Bar.

Entrambi i programmi proseguiranno per dieci serate, fino a domenica 18 agosto, quando il festival sarà ormai un bel ricordo...

Locarno's major film festival attracts an audience that love movies and its cultural flair. Whereas the official Film Festival Locarno provides a bandwith of cinema movies, la rada is proud to offer an intense program of movies that are non-mainstream, as well as artistic stimuli and insights of film making.

La rada is a contemporary art space on the second floor of the former municipal school, the building that will become the Festival Palace, located between the large roundabout and Piazza Grande.
Friday the 9th at 6pm will be the commencement of two major events, with a vernissage and a party:
- Off Side, a review of "video pamphlet", curated by Franco Marinotti - producer of experimental film and organizer of Fair Play festival, in Berlin and Lugano
- The State of Making Things - in practice an art film production that does not generate a cohesive film - edited by Sarah Bernauer, Franziska Glozer and Garrett Nelson, Basel/Zürich.
The two events, which involve a large number of high-profile artists, Swiss and international, will take place every evening from 6pm until one o'clock at night, according to the program present on www.larada.ch website.
It's important to note that both programs are entirely free entry.

Off Side is a video and film platform dealing with the relationship between artistic practices and political action, including both medium-length films projected on a fixed schedule, and shorts or video installations in continuous viewing on monitors.

Unlike a traditional festival of video art, movies have also been selected for their filmic and narrative contents, which allows the public a greater participation.

The State of Making Things title derives from the important Wenders' film, The State of Things. The emphasis is on the space and time of a film making - the set and the shooting – whereby the individual actions are more important than the mythic film product.
The set is housed in one of the two rooms of la rada and a long line up of artists and performers – many among the best of the Swiss scene - will depart from the work of Wenders in thinking about deconstructed filmmaking. The documentation of the project is not only filmic but is made up of a setting in flux, written texts and scripts, documenting the contributions, events and performances. The participating artists are: Annette Amberg, Sarah Bernauer, Domenico Billari, Stefan Burger, Martin Chramosta, Nicolas Dauwalder, Oliver Dolder, Franziska Glozer, Mélodie Mousset, Garrett Nelson, Pop X & Giordano T Rush, Michele Robecchi, Manuel Scheiwiller, Veronika Spierenburg, Mirjam Spoolder, Markus Stähli, Bohdan Stehlik & Una Szeemann, Li Tavor, and Agora Bar.
