Kelechi Nwaneri – Echoes of Power

Comunicato stampa
Primo Marella Gallery Lugano is pleased to present Echoes of Power, the first solo exhibition in Switzerland by Nigerian artist Kelechi Nwaneri, taking place on Thursday, December 11th at 6 pm.
For this landmark exhibition, Kelechi Nwaneri positions his signature figures within key moments of the past to narrate events that have shaped the geopolitical landscape of his home country, Nigeria. These moments carry a resonance that has echoed across generations, influencing the present long after they originally unfolded.
Driven by a desire to document history – especially in a rapidly changing world where the past is often obscured and truths are denied – Nwaneri seeks to preserve the fragments that remain, the traces of the path that has led Nigerians to where they stand today.
Through this exhibition, Nwaneri underscores the importance of remembering, reclaiming, and retelling the stories that define a people.
While introducing an international audience to significant episodes of Nigerian history, he also aims to remind Nigerians themselves – particularly at a time when the atmosphere surrounding upcoming elections clouds the public sphere – of the sacrifices and pivotal events that gave birth to the nation and its democracy.
His works recall the tensions and displacements of war, the strength found in unity, and the enduring spirit of resistance against oppression.
