Robilant+Voena is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Jordan Watson opening on 2 February in Milan, in honour of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. Sound of Gold will feature works by the American artist in which the Black experience is reimagined through his signature Afrofuturist lens. Watson envisions a utopia of anonymous protagonists enjoying aspirational leisure pursuits, frequently engaging in activities that have historically seen limited Black participation.

The exhibition opens in conjunction with the upcoming Winter Olympics and is part of the Cultural Olympiad programme. The beguiling and otherworldly visions of typical winter pursuits (skiing, hockey, skating) draw upon the formative array of sports-related media the artist collected growing up in Jamaica, Queens, and through which Watson colourfully recasts the lived realities of the Black experience.
