Comunicato stampa

On the occasion of the eighth 'Vetrina', Vino Vero presents a site-specific work by Giorgia Severi, an Italian artist working about environmental and landscape issues. Her multimedia artistic research is based on archiving endangered landscapes, which includes natural spaces and cultural practices. Focusing on melting glaciers, deforestation, global warming, climate change, contamination and endangered species, she investigates through scientific data and traditional and cultural meanings related to the place and its history. Giorgia Severi uses the technique of frottage and molds sculptures, born from her studies of restoration as an archival technique, which she now reuses in her practice to translate the texture of endangered tree species and rock walls that hosted melting glaciers and other environmental memories.

With her work Climax #5 Venice, 2023, realised for the Vetrine project, Giorgia Severi wonders whether the climax, which is the condition of maximum equilibrium and growth of an ecosystem, is not perhaps at the point of an involution, placing us at a point of inevitable congenital degeneration of which we are naturally part. The artworks are the result of woven images where the picture of Venice lagoon is gradually erased by the image of water. The Venetian project has been developed thanks to Ecomuseo of Lazzaretto Nuovo Island, in collaboration with Studio la Città Gallery Verona.

Vetrina presents a series of exhibitions curated by Mara Sartore for Vino Vero and in collaboration with Lightbox: on a quarterly basis, internationally renowned artists working on the theme of nature are invited to present their site-specific works in the window of the wine club adjacent to the wine bar.

Giorgia Severi, born in 1984 in Ravenna, where she studied restoration of mosaic and graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in the same city. She lives and works in Italy and around the world. Her works have been showed at: Galleria La Salita (Madeira), MUSE Museum (Trento), Galleria Studio la Città (Verona), 56th Venice Biennale, Museo Nazionale della Montagna CAI (Torino), Museo Diocesano (Faenza), M. Contemporary Gallery (Sydney), IIC (Sydney), GASC (Milano), Casa Testori (Milano), Camaldoli Monastery, Bagnacavallo Cappuccine Museum, Monogao21 + Magazzino Art Gallery.

Studio la Città is a contemporary art gallery opened in Verona in 1969 and still runned by Hélène de Franchis. Lucio Fontana, Piero Dorazio, Mario Schifano and Gianni Colombo have been the artist characterising the beginning work of the gallery, joined over time by foreign artists linked to European and American analytical and minimalist painting. The gallery's choices over more than 50 years have also involved contemporary Italian and international artists from different generations, selected mainly for the quality of their work and not following the fashions of the moment.
