Giancarlo Montuschi – 40 Years of Pop Art

La mostra ospiterà circa dieci opere, inclusi un gruppo di dipinti inediti e alcuni lavori eseguiti all’inizio della carriera dell’artista nei primi anni settanta, esposte per la prima volta ad Arezzo.

Negli spazi di Via Cavour 85, ad Arezzo, inaugura domenica 5 ottobre 2014, alle ore 18, la mostra personale di pittura dell’artista faentino Giancarlo Montuschi dal titolo 40 Years of Pop Art.
L’esposizione a cura di Danielle Villicana D’Annibale, che sarà presentata dal critico d’arte Alberto D’Atanasio, ospiterà circa dieci opere, inclusi un gruppo di dipinti inediti e alcuni lavori eseguiti all’inizio della carriera dell’artista nei primi anni settanta, esposte per la prima volta ad Arezzo. L’installazione includerà una selezione di lavori notevoli, pieni di vitalità e coloratissimi, ispirati dalla cultura pop, e prodotto di una fervente immaginazione di un artista ormai adottivo toscano.
La mostra proseguirà, a ingresso gratuito, fino a domenica 2 novembre 2014 con il seguente orario: domenica 5 ottobre dalle ore 18:00 alle 20:00, dal martedì a sabato, dalle ore 16 alle ore 20, e sabato 1 novembre e domenica 2 novembre dalle ore 11 alle ore 20 durante la Fiera Antiquaria.
Tra gli eventi collaterali si segnala, sabato 18 ottobre alle ore 18:00, intervista di Giancarlo Montuschi a cura di Lucrezia Lombardo. Il catalogo che accompagnerà la mostra è preparato da Petra Montuschi, che includerà una presentazione della curatrice e una recensione del critico.

Con grande piacere Via Cavour 85 presenta Giancarlo Montuschi per la sua terza mostra personale ad Arezzo. In perfetta sincronia con la vendemmia, un momento così glorioso, non potrebbe essere più idoneo per la succosa e deliziosa pittura di Montuschi. Una preziosa e curiosa opera, datata 1974, introduce il tema della mostra “pop”, un gustoso fico maturo che letteralmente sta esplodendo, pronto per essere mangiato, viene aperto da due bellissime mani di una donna di classe di quale vediamo solo le curatissime mani con unghie rosso Ferrari. Questo stile di pittura e espressione “pop” poi diventa un mantra e la base per una ricerca pittorica che Montuschi porta avanti da esattamente quarant’anni. Come ha scritto Claudio Spadoni (oggi direttore del “MAR” Museo D'Arte della Città di Ravenna e direttore artistico all’Arte Fiera di Bologna) nel 1976: Montuschi ovvero: “Un pop che fa ricerca”. Un altro dipinto eccezionale dello stesso periodo, dalla serie pop Futurista “Foto Finish” di corse ippiche, raffigura un gruppo di cavalli in una corsa determinata nient’altro che per la vittoria. Un totale di quattro opere della prima produzione Montuschiana, sarà in esposizione come chiaro esempio dell’evidente talento emergente del giovane artista.

Per complementare le opere del suo debutto artistico, a distanza di quarantanni, sarà presente un gruppo di opere recenti, incluso una grande opera intitolato “Tuffatori”, una delizia per gli occhi. Dopo la creazione di quest’opera, ci fu un misterioso incontro internazionale nel “Pianeta Blu”. Non è certo se il “Pianeta” di Montuschi si espanda così tanto da arrivare a toccare il continente America o se questi personaggi amati Americani hanno scelto di fare un viaggio in provincia di Arezzo nello studio del Maestro, ma quello che è certo è che quest’anno, uno scambio “planetario” e importante è stato celebrato.

Riflettendo sulla pittura di Giancarlo Montuschi, quello di uno anno fa, immediatamente appare un arcobaleno, dinamico e divertente, come se fosse un magico scivolo che invita cordialmente a giocare con lui in un mondo animato blu, pieno di colore, bontà e allegria. Ben ordinati e potati sono i giardini, una realtà piena di respiro, di aria fresca, arte e cultura, musica, libertà, ottimismo, felicità, e non manca un pizzico di ironia e tutto quello che serve per una vita prosperosa e gioiosa. Spesso si trovano le stelle a quattro punte, delle palme straordinarie che si protendono verso il cielo, i fiori di colore rosa, le frecce rosse, le nuvole dinamiche, come se fossero sculture nel cielo, le colline viola perfettamente tondeggianti, un mondo pieno di baci e amore, cuori grandi, pesci che saltano con gioia, delle scacchiere e strumenti musicali con quale giocare, e più colori che uno può immaginare potesse esistere. Tutto ciò, evidenzia la presente potenziale ricchezza nella quale viviamo e la speranza per un mondo migliore con ampio rispetto per tutti, giornate beate per tutti, e anche vite ricche di emozioni, profumi, sensazioni e soprattutto l’amore, buon cibo e musica per tutti.

Con la nuova serie dei dipinti ad acrilico, il Maestro Montuschi ha trasportato pezzetti della storia gloriosa americana di animazione e il mondo dei comics nel suo linguaggio pittorico. Dei V.I.P. del mondo di Walt Disney e Captain Marvel (DC Comics) rendono visita. Montuschi esprime un’evidente passione e amore per i grandi disegnatori di comics di una volta, e uno dei più grandi creatori moderni di tutti tempi, Walt Disney (Disney ha iniziato la sua carriera nel 1923 con il short film Alice’s Wonderland). Circa novant’anni dopo, Montuschi gli rende omaggio e introduce Alice nei personaggi del suo amato mondo, “Pianeta Blu”. Visioni planetarie Flashgordiane, alieni e navi spaziali non mancano. A Via Cavour 85 vedrete Paperina, John Lennon e i quattro Beatles, Tarzan, Superman, Mandrake, astronauti, carissimo Pinocchio, Biancaneve e i sette nani e Alice nel paese delle meraviglie. Questa collisione frontale con il mondo di Disney e Comics, crea una nuova originale espressione pop firmato Giancarlo Montuschi. Come dice il detto … “I propri simili si riconoscono sempre”.

Prominente esponente del ventesimo e ventunesimo secolo dei pittori italiani, Montuschi recentemente è stato incluso in una nuova raccolta dei più importanti artisti italiani, nel nascente Museo D’Arte Contemporanea Internazionale di Biella, un progetto curato dall’artista Omar Ronda (che 1967 insieme a Gian Enzo Sperone e Lucio Amelio organizzò una serie di grandi mostre) e dal critico d’arte Philippe Daverio. Montuschi lavora stabilmente con molte gallerie italiane e con una galleria americana di Chicago. Con enorme onore presentiamo Giancarlo Montuschi per questa speciale celebrazione di 40 anni di pop art alla Montuschi.

Come descrive con precisione Alberto D’Atanasio nel catalogo “Il fare Arte di Giancarlo Montuschi è talento, rara capacità di narrarsi e narrare, coraggio di misurarsi in maniera diretta e nuova con un mondo sempre più afono e atono”.

Breve biografia:
Giancarlo Montuschi, artista faentino, da tempo trapiantato nella bassa Toscana è l'anti-personaggio per eccellenza.
Pittore, ceramista-scultore di vaglia, si esprime con un linguaggio ingenuo, fiabesco, e sostanzialmente fantastico, con venature alchemico-esoteriche.
Il fatto di essere nato (nel 1952) a Faenza, terra d'eccellenza per la ceramica, e di aver "respirato" negli anni di formazione, i fermenti rivitalizzanti generati dall'influenza della Pop Art sui giovani artisti di quell'epoca, ha evidenziato, in Montuschi, due linee espressive complementari e formalmente diverse.
Partecipa a numerose mostre nell'arco degli anni Ottanta: a Faenza, Firenze, Arezzo, Verona, Bologna, Bergamo, Torino, Bassano, in Svezia e a Zagabria.
Nel decennio successivo, inizia la collaborazione con la Kens'Art di Firenze, poi vengono le rassegne "The Art of living" a New York e "Scarperentola" itinerante a Milano, Londra e New York; e la personale al museo della ceramica di Saint Emillion (Bordeaux). Partecipa anche a diverse edizioni dell'expo arte di Bari, Montichiari e Padova, all'ArteFiera di Bologna, all'EuropArt di Ginevra, al festival di Spoleto. Numerose le personali a Roma nei primi anni del 2000, poi a Perugia, Firenze (galleria Immaginaria), Prato, Milano, mentre si intensificano le presenze in fiera: Vicenza Arte, Expo di Bari, e Genova, Fiera Internazionale dell'Arte a Innsbruck, West Lake Expo in Cina. Viene invitato alla 51° Biennale di Venezia, Padiglione Istituto Latino Americano. Molti Musei e fondazioni italiane conservano sue opere, in novembre anche il nascente "MACIST" Museo D’Arte Contemporanea Internazionale di Biella. 40 Years of Pop Art
The paintings of Giancarlo Montuschi in Arezzo from October 5 to November 4, 2014

At Via Cavour 85 in Arezzo, on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 6pm, will inaugurate the solo exhibition of painting entitled 40 Years of Pop Art of Giancarlo Montuschi, Italian artist from Faenza.
The exposition, curated by Danielle Villicana D’Annibale, presented by art critic Alberto D’Atanasio, will host approximately ten works, including a group of original and unreleased paintings, as well as a group of paintings from the beginning of the artist’s career from the 70’s, all exhibited for the first time in the city of Arezzo in Tuscany. The installation will include a noteworthy selection of works, colorful and full of vitality, inspired by the pop culture, and product of a fervent imagination of an artist by now considered an “adoptive” Tuscan.

The exhibit will proceed, at free entrance, until Sunday, November 2, 2014, with the following hours: Sunday, October 5 from 6pm to 8pm, Tuesday to Saturday, from 4am to 8pm and Saturday, November 1st and Sunday, November 2nd from 11am to 8pm for the Fiera Antiquaria.
Collateral events to the exhibit include, Saturday, November 18 at 6pm, by appointment, interview of Giancarlo Montuschi curated by Lucrezia Lombardo. A catalogue will accompany the exhibit, created by Petra Montuschi, and will include a presentation by the curator and an essay by the art critic.

Via Cavour 85 with great pleasure presents Giancarlo Montuschi, Italian artist from the city of Faenza, in a solo exhibition of painting entitled 40 Years of Pop Art, his third personal exhibit in Arezzo in recent years. In perfect synchrony with the harvest, during such a glorious moment, nothing could be more suitable than the juicy and delicious painting of Montuschi. A precious and curious work, dated 1974, introduces the theme of the exhibit "pop." A savory mature fig that is literally exploding, ready to be eaten, is opened by two beautiful hands of a classy woman, of whom we see only the well groomed hands, with fingernails painted Ferrari red. This style of painting and "pop" expression becomes the mantra and the base for a pictorial search that Montuschi has concentrated on for the past forty years. As Claudio Spadoni wrote in 1976, the current Director of the “MAR,” the Museum of Art of the City of Ravenna and Artistic Director of the ArteFiera of Bologna: Montuschi creates, "A pop that makes research." Another exceptional painting of the same period, from the Futurist pop series "Photo Finish" of a horse race, represents a group of horses in a determined race for none other than victory. A total of four works of the first Montuschian production, will be on exhibit as a clear example of the evident emerging talent of the young artist.

To complement the works of his artistic debut, at a distance of forty years, will be present a group of recent works, including a large work entitled "Divers," a delight for the spectator. After the creation of this work, a mysterious international meeting occurred in the "Blue Planet." It is not certain if the "Planet" of Montuschi expanded so large that it touched the American continent or if the beloved American characters close to Montuschi’s heart chose to take a trip in the province of Arezzo to the studio of the Master, but what is certain is that this year, a "planetary" exchange and important encounter has been celebrated.

Reflecting on the painting of Giancarlo Montuschi, that of a year ago, a rainbow immediately appears, dynamic and amusing, as if it were a magic slide that cordially invites you to play with him in an animated blue world, full of color, goodness and joy. Orderly and well-trimmed are the gardens, a reality full of breath, of fresh air, art and culture, music, liberty, optimism, happiness, as well as a pinch of irony and everything that is necessary for a prosperous and cheerful life. Often, we find stars with four points, extraordinary palms that stretch out toward the sky, pink flowers, red arrows, dynamic clouds, as if they were sculptures in the sky, perfectly round violet hills, a world full of kisses and love, big hearts, fishes that jump with joy, chessboards and musical instrument with which to play, and more colors than one could imagine might exist. All of these things, underline the present potential wealth in which we live and the hope for a better world with ample respect for all, blessed days for all, and also lives rich in emotions, scents, feelings and above all the love, good food and music for all.

With the new series of acrylic paintings, Master Montuschi has transported bits of the glorious American history of animation and the world of the comics into his pictorial language. V.I.P.s of the world of Walt Disney and Captain Marvel (DC Comics) decide to visit. Montuschi expresses an evident passion and love for the great draftsmen of comics of the past, and one of the greatest modern creators of all times, Walt Disney (Disney began his career in 1923 with the short film Alice's Wonderland). Approximately ninety years later, Montuschi pays him homage and introduces Alice to the characters of his beloved world, "The Blue Planet." Planetary Flash Gordon inspired visions, aliens and spatial ships may be seen in the paintings. At Via Cavour 85 you will see Thelma “Della” Duck, John Lennon and the four Beatles, Tarzan, Superman, Mandrake, astronauts, dear Pinocchio, Snow White and the seven dwarves and Alice in the Wonderland. This frontal collision with the world of Disney and Comics, creates a new and original pop expression by Giancarlo Montuschi. As the saying goes, "Great minds think alike."

Prominent exponent of the twentieth and twenty-first century of Italian painters, recently Montuschi has been included in a new selection of some of the most important contemporary Italian artists, in the new Museum of International Contemporary art of in Biella, a project curated by artist Omar Ronda (who in 1967, together with Gian Enzo Sperone and Lucio Amelio, organized a series of great exhibits) and by the art critic Philippe Daverio. Montuschi works steadily with many Italian galleries as well as with an American gallery in Chicago. It is an enormous honor to introduce Giancarlo Montuschi for this special celebration of 40 years of pop art Montuschi style.

As Alberto D’Atanasio describes with precision in the catalog, "The Art making of Giancarlo Montuschi is talent, rare ability to narrate himself and to narrate, courage to measure himself in direct and new way with a voiceless and increasingly atonic world."

Brief biography:
Giancarlo Montuschi, artist from Faenza, transplanted for quite some time in the lower part of Tuscany, is the anti-personality of excellence.
Painter and ceramicist-sculptor of merit, he expresses himself with a naïve language, fairy-like, and fundamentally fantastic, with alchemico-esoteric veins.
The fact to have been born (in 1952) in Faenza, land of excellence for ceramics, and to have "breathed" in the years of formation, the reinvigorating fermentation produced by the influence of Pop Art on the young artists of that epoch, has underlined, in Montuschi, the two complementary, and formally diverse, expressive lines.
He participated in numerous exhibits during the eighties: in Faenza, Florence, Arezzo, Verona, Bologna, Bergamo, Turin, Bassano, in Sweden and Zagabria.

In the following decade, he began a collaboration with the Kens'Art in Florence, then came the exhibits "The Art of living" in New York and then the itinerant "Scarperentola" in Milan, London and New York; afterwards came the one man show at the museum of the ceramics in Saint Emillion (Bordeaux). He has participated also in different editions of art expos in Bari, Montichiari and Padua, at the ArteFiera in Bologna, at the EuropArt in Geneva, at the festival of Spoleto.
