di che cosa parla:
quando ci innamoriamo, le reazioni chimiche istantaneamente attivano il circuito di incentivazione nel cervello, con le reazioni fisiologiche corrispondenti, le palpitazioni di cuore e mancamento di fiato, l’eccitazione, lo stress. Dal punto di vista di neurobiologia, un innamoramento nient’ altro che “expectation and delusion” – le aspettative e le delusioni, e tutta la dinamica ciclica tra di loro: dalla felicità euforica alla tristezza esasperata, da secoli descritte nell'arte e letteratura.

I neurobiologi confermano, che tutte le parti primordiali del cervello reagiscono anche solo ai pensieri dell'oggetto dell'amore.

Quando l’amore non e’ corrisposto, il livello di cortisolo (l’ormone di stress) sale, il livello di serotonina cala e ci rovescia, per citare Richard S. Schwartz, “nei pensieri persistenti ed irritanti, nelle speranze perturbanti, negli orrori dell’amore immaturo”

La Performance:
Dalle recenti scoperte scientifiche si è chiaro che l'innamoramento ha presso poco nulla di romantico. Siamo sotto il potere dei processi chimici, i quali non possiamo gestire. Mi interessa investigare la questione della contrapposizione del “Io” interiore, delle mie desideri di amare e soffrire, e del potere implacabile dei processi chimici.

La performance consiste in:

- il modello in fusione di metallo del circuito di gratificazione del cervello, che e’ custodito come una reliquia nella ampolla decorata.

- un (una) performer innamorato (a), che cautamente estrae il pezzo dalla ampolla e lo stringe nella mano con la tutta concentrazione e la passione che puo’. In un breve arco di tempo, il metallo sotto la tensione delle emozioni, inizia a fondersi e gocciolare, lasciando poi solo “il circuito” spezzato e fuso e le gocce di metallo sul pavimento.

Elena Nemkova
Lives and works in Milano (I) and St. Petersburg (RU)

Born in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Graduated in 1996 in Conceptual Art & Design at the Academy of Industrial Arts (former V. Muchina Institute) of St. Petersburg (RU), and at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera of Milano in 2001. In 1999 she took part in the Master of Contemporary Art – Premio d’Arte Mercedes-Benz at Centro d’Arte La Loggia, Montefiridolfi (I). In 2004 she participated in the Advanced Course in Visual Arts (visiting professor Jimmie Durham) at Fondazione Ratti, Como (I).
