Elena Cologni – Lo scarto

Si ha la tendenza di passare attraverso i luoghi senza davvero viverli, la performance cerca di offrire alla gente l’opportunità di capire che lo spazio tra noi, cosi’ come quello intorno noi, e la sua storia ci appartengono, pur vivendoli per un breve periodo. La consapevolezza dell’ identità della gente in relazione ai propri luoghi è un bene da proteggere e coltivare.

Elena Cologni, artista italo inglese selezionata per la residenza IArt in Sicilia organizzata da CLAC, invita chi volesse a due giornate di laboratorio con performance finale nel sistema delle piazze a Castelvetrano Selinunte. I laboratori saranno il mercoledi' 22 Aprile e giovedi' 23 Aprile pomeriggio tra le 14 e le 17 del pomeriggio. Per chi volesse partecipare attivamente il contatto è [email protected], per tutti gli altri l'invito è semplicemente di andare a godersi lo spettacolo in piazza dove la performance sarà il venerdi' 24 Aprile alle 17!

Cologni dice: ' Durante la mia residenza IArt in Sicilia, con base a Castelvetrano Selinunte, ho cercato di capire la dinamica dialogica messa in atto da Danilo Dolci, e provato a tradurre la maieutica reciproca in termini di disegni, oggetti e performance per evidenziare il significato dello spazio e distanza tra le persone: lo scarto. Questo è uno dei concetti di Dolci adottati, nell'evento performativo che avverrà il 24 aprile nel Sistema delle Piazze. In quell'occasione vorrei chiedere a chi partecipa di condividere una propria lettura del passato attaverso una puntualizzazione dell'architettura, testimone della storia di questo luogo in cui religione e natura, mito e scienza si sono intrecciate, e tuttora insite nella vita della sua gente.

Elena Cologni ha studiato all'Accademia di Belle Arti Brera in Milan, ha un Master in Sculpture da Leeds University e un dottorato (borsa di studio) da University of the Arts, Central Saint Martins College, Londra (2004). Ha poi conseguito una borsa di studio (Arts and Humanities Research Council, 2004/06) per un post-dottorato alla stessa istituzione (che ha prodotto Mnemonic Present, Un-Folding series di video installazioni live 2005-2006), una fellwoship di ricerca alla York Saint John's University (2007/09), ed è al momento ricercatore associato alla Commonwealth Intercultural Arts Network (University of Cambridge) (2013/14). Si è interessata di ricerca come pratica artistica, documentazione di opere effimere, memoria nel presente, temporalità, approccio dialogico nei lavori partecipati, in(ter)disciplinarietà. Contribuisce al Circuit program per giovani diretto dalla Tate e supportata Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Ha vinto residenze, all Centre for Contemporary Arts Glasgow (che ha portato a Re-Moved alla Biennale Glasgow international 08), Yorkshire Sculpture Park (supportata da Arts Council of England, UK Geomemos) , a Impington College Cambridge, parte delle celebrazioni del 75 anniversario di Gropius dove adotta un approccio ‘arte come interfaccia nella società attaverso il dialogue’ e alla University of Cambridge, Faculty of Experimental Psychology. Il progetto Rockfluid ne è il risultato, e ha vinto due Grant of the Arts, Arts Council of England, un Escalator Visual Art Retreat at Wysing Arts Centre, e un Escalator live art, Colchester Arts Centre. Questo ha generato una serie di opere partecipative e/o site specific come : Spa(e)cious (Wysing Art Centre, Galleria Artra Milan, MK gallery Milton Keynes, Philosophy and performance group, performance Studies international and Kingston University Art Research Unit, Bergamo Scienza), Navigation Diagrams (MK Gallery, UK), e U' Verruzze' and Balancing (as part of Radio Materiality, curators Vessel, Bari, Athens Biennale 2013, and Doppelgaenger Bari, 2014). Rockfluid si basa su un approccio fortemente interdisciplinare incentrato sull'interesse per l'impatto di memoria, percezione e luoghi sulla nostra identità.

Castelvetrano Sistema di Piazze 24 April, 5pm

Elena Cologni, italian artist resident in the UK selected for a the IArt Residency in Sicily organised by CLAC, will provide two days of workshops in preparation to a final performance in the Sistema delle Piazze (central square system) in Castelvetrano Selinunte. The workshops will take place on Wednesday 22nd of April and Thursday 23rd of April between 2 and 5 pm. You can confirm your participation by getting in touch [email protected] . However you can also come and watch the final performance, simply show up on Friday the 24th of April at 5 pm!

Cologni states: ' During my residency IArt in Sicily, at Castelvetrano Selinunte, I tried to understand Danilo Dolci's dialogic dynamics, by translating his 'reciprocal maieutics' through drawings, sculptures and performance to highlight the meaning to be found in space, and indeed distance between people: lo scarto (the left over). This is one of the concepts by Dolci adopted in the performance event taking place on 24th April in the main square system. In this context I would ask participants to share their reading of the past through a punctuation of the architecture, bearer of the history of this place where religion and nature, myth and science intertwined, and are still imbedded in its people's lives.
We tend to go through places without inhabiting them. The performance tries to offer people the opportunity to understand that the space between us, as well as that around us, and its history belong to us, even if we inhabit them only for a short amount of time. The awareness of one's own identity in relation to one's own place must be cherished and nurtured ' .

She won residencies including: at the Centre for Contemporary Arts Glasgow (to work at Re-Moved alla Biennale Glasgow international 08), at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (Arts Council of England, UK Geomemos), at Impington College Cambridge, for the celebrations of the 75th Gropius building anniversary where she adopting an ‘art as interface in society through dialogue’ approach, and at the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Experimental Psychology. The Rockfluid project is the main outcome, winning two Grant of the Arts, Arts Council of England, Escalator Visual Art Retreat at Wysing Arts Centre, and Escalator live art, Colchester Arts Centre. Rockfluid is absed on a strog interdisciplinary approach to investiage createvely impact of memory, perception and places on our identity.
