Templeton è conosciuto grazie alla sua attività di skateboarder professionista, titolare e fondatore di Toy Machine. Al di fuori di mondo degli skaters, Templeton è un pittore, un grafico e un fotografo, ovvero artista a 360°. Ed Templeton è il simbolo della libertà. Guidato dall'istinto, scatta con la sua macchina migliaia di foto che corrispondono esattamente a ciò che vede. Entra nel mondo dell'arte nel 1993 con il progetto fotografico Teenage Kissers, esposto a New York all'Allaged Gallery, con cui vince anche il primo premio nella competizione artistica Search for Art a Milano nel 2000.
Ed Templeton è un autodidatta della fotografia. Mentre nella foto è istintivo, ha imparato a disegnare studiando i maestri del colore: Egon Schiele, Balthus e Jean-Michel Basquiat sono i suoi punti di riferimento. Per quanto riguarda invece la scultura, molto piccola oppure di grandi dimensioni, utilizza materiali trovati, spesso di scarto, nel pieno rispetto della poetica punk del Do It Yourself e del Ready Made. I protagonisti dei suoi scatti sono gli adolescenti in cerca d'identità, testimoni involontari della vita di strada di oggi, che offrono tanti spunti alla moda e allo stile. Oziano, giocano, fanno sesso, viaggiano, si stordiscono, ascoltano musica. Sono personaggi che sembrano usciti da un film per ragazzi.

Ed Templeton è nato nel 1972 nella sud della California, dove tuttora vive e lavora. Personaggio di culto nell'ambiente dello skateboard: i suoi dipinti, fotografie, disegni e installazioni prendono ispirazione dalla sottocultura a cui appartiene e dall'ambiente suburbano in cui vive. Templeton dal 1990 è stato due volte campione mondiale di skateboard professionale e il fondatore/manager di Toy Machine Skateboard Company dal 1993. Sono stati pubblicati oltre 10 libri delle sue fotografie e opere d'arte, che includono il premio vincitore Deformer, (Damiani 2008) il premio vincitore Teenage Smokers, (Alleged 2000) e The Golden Age of Neglect (Drago 2002). Nel 2010 lo S.M.A.K. Museum di Gent ha cominciato una ricerca museale sul suo lavoro intitolata Cemetery of Reason. Le sue opere sono state esposte, tra i molti posti, al MOCA, Los Angeles, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, S.M.A.K. Museum, Belgium, Ernst Muzeum, Budapest, Kiasma Museum, Helsinki, Kunsthalle, Vienna, e al BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, UK.

Templeton is well known because of his activity as a professional skateboarder, owner and founder of Toy Machine. Outside of the skate world, Templeton is a painter, graphic artist and photographer, a 360° artist. Ed Templeton is a symbol of freedom. He takes thousands of pictures that are snapshots of what captures his glance, driven by instinct. He started his career in the art world in 1993, and gained notoriety with a photographic project called Teenage Kissers, shown first at Alleged Gallery in New York, which went on to win first prize in an art competition called Search for Art in Milan, 2000.
Ed Templeton is a self-taught about photograph technique. He has a passionate approach with photography but he studied the masters via books: Egon Schiele, Balthus and Jean-Michel Basquiat are his main benchmarks. For sculptures, either small or huge, he uses ready-made materials, often scrappy ones, following the punk poetic of Do It Yourself and Ready Made. The main characters of his snapshots are the teenagers looking for their own identity, involuntarily witnesses of contemporary street life that offer many ideas into fashion and style. They chill out, they play, they make love, travel, get wasted, listen to music. Like characters from a teenage movie.

Ed Templeton was born in 1972 in Southern California, where he continues to live and work. A respected cult figure in the subculture of skateboarding, his paintings, photographs, drawings, and mixed-media installations take their inspiration from the subculture he is a part of and the suburban environment he lives in. Templeton is also a two-time world-champion professional skateboarder since 1990, and the founder/brand manager of Toy Machine Skateboard Company since 1993. Over 10 books of his photography/artwork have been published including the prize winning Deformer, (Damiani 2008) the prize winning Teenage Smokers, (Alleged 2000) and The Golden Age of Neglect. (Drago 2002) In 2010 a three museum mid-career survey titled Cemetery of Reason was launched by the S.M.A.K. Museum, Gent. His work has been shown at MOCA, Los Angeles, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, S.M.A.K. Museum, Belgium, Ernst Muzeum, Budapest, Kiasma Museum, Helsinki, Kunsthalle, Vienna, and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, UK among others.
