The Syrian Arab Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale presents the exhibition “The Syrian People: Common Destiny“. Creations by Syrian plastic artists are known for being laden with experience, featuring a diversity of influences, taking endless directions and using a plethora of tools. Art has always represented the key to shaping society, fostering love, hope and providing an opportunity for rebirth. As expected, the forms and content in the works of the contemporary Syrian Artists participating in the Syrian Arab Pavilion at the Biennale Arte 2022, reflect all these important aspects.

Five of them from Syria, an alluring land with an ancient civilization that was highly advanced for its time, a land of innovation capable of boasting a sculpture dating all the way back to the eighth millennium BC, exhibit – on the occasion of this important international appointment with Art – examples of their works following a period of destructive war spanning a decade. Indeed, they were some of the most affected by its harsh repercussions.
Nevertheless, it did not prevent them from clinging to life, from clinging to their beloved homeland. They soldiered on, continuing to manifest their creativity and embracing the noble mission of disseminating a culture of life, beauty and freedom of expression. While they all have different visions of reality and of the universe surrounding them, forged by their experiences, each of them possesses a distinctive style, a particular technique, a philosophy, point of view and attitude towards the events that inspire their works.
