Tadeusz Kantor (1915-1990) – Emballage Cricotage and Madame Jarema
Comunicato stampa
Organised by the Starak Family Foundation, Tadeusz Kantor (1915-1990): Emballage, Cricotage and Madame Jarema marks the first exhibition of the work of seminal Polish post-war artist Tadeusz Kantor at the Venice Biennale since 1960.
Kantor was a major figure in the experimental theatre scene and one of the most significant Polish artists of the 20th century. His avant-garde practice encompassed painting, set design, writing, and revolutionary theatrical performances that transgressed the traditional boundaries of the stage. As a Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the exhibition is devoted to the relationship and work of Kantor and Maria Jarema, the fellow artist with whom he founded the radical Crictot 2 theatre. It will feature Kantor’s major paintings alongside original props and objects from his performances, including a selection of compositions from the late 1950s and early 1960s, works known as emballages from 1964-1978, and his last painting series Dalej już nic (Further on, Nothing) (1987-1990), Cholernie spadam (I’m Goddamn Falling).
