Sono arrivato alla conclusione che ciò che prevale nel mondo è la correlazione: il suono è connesso alla visione, e la visione non può esistere senza suono. Tutto ciò che un essere umano fa è connesso: i fenomeni visivi e acustici sono complementari.

P420 è felice di annunciare la seconda mostra personale dell’artista Milan Grygar (1926, Zvolen, Slovacchia, vive e lavora a Praga).

Per circa mezzo secolo, a partire dalla metà degli anni Sessanta, Milan Grygar ha sviluppato un corpus di opere la cui premessa è l’indissolubilità di due sensi che l’arte occidentale ha spesso considerato separatamente, la vista e l’udito. Le sue opere hanno un legame essenziale con il suono: ne registrano in forma visiva il decorso o si costituiscono come partiture più o meno dettagliate per produrlo.
Se nella prima mostra in galleria (Sound on paper, 2014) si erano presentati i lavori degli anni ’60 e ’70 legati alle sperimentazioni sonore, visive e performative (Acoustic Drawings, Sound Plastic Drawings e Linear Scores), nella mostra che inaugurerà il 23 settembre a Bologna, saranno esposte opere recenti tra cui tele anche di grandi dimensioni della serie Antifone e acquerelli su carta.
Dal 1996 l’artista ha iniziato una serie di lavori dal titolo Antifona, una dualità continuamente in bilico tra uno spazio visivo e uno sonoro.
Le tele, che vogliono affrontare il rapporto tra suono e colore nell’alternanza tra armonioso e non armonioso, sono spesso dittici con composizioni geometriche minime o monocromi - prima con colori cupi e negli ultimi anni con colori sempre più accesi - che creano tra loro una forte relazione spaziale.

Milan Grygar (Zvolen, Slovacchia, 1926, vive e lavora a Praga) non solo è considerato uno tra i più autorevoli artisti della repubblica Ceca ma è tra le figure più interessanti, a livello internazionale, nelle sperimentazione tra arte visiva e sonorità musicali contemporanee. I came to the certainty that what prevails in the world is correlation: sound is connected to the visual and the visual cannot exist without sound. Everything a human does is connected: visual and acoustic phenomena complement one another.

P420 is pleased to announce the second solo show by the artist Milan Grygar (b.1926, Zvolen, Slovakia, lives and works in Prague).

For about half a century, starting in the mid-1960s, Milan Grygar has developed an oeuvre whose premise is the indivisible nature of the two senses occidental art has often considered separately: sight and hearing. His works are essentially linked to sound: they visually record its progress or constitute more or less detailed scores for its production.
While the first show at the gallery (Sound on Paper, 2014) presented works from the 1960s and 1970s connected with aural, visual and performative experimentation (Acoustic Drawings, Sound Plastic Drawings and Linear Scores), the exhibition that opens on 23 September in Bologna features recent works, including large canvases from the Antiphon series and watercolors on paper.
In 1996 the artist began the series entitled Antiphon, reflecting a dualism constantly balanced between visual and aural space. The canvases, which approach the relationship between sound and color in the alternation of harmony and dissonance, are often diptychs with minimal or monochromatic compositions – first with dark colors, then with increasingly bright ones in recent years – which create a strong spatial relationship.

Milan Grygar (b. 1926 in Zvolen, Slovakia, lives and works in Prague) is considered one of the most authoritative artists of the Czech Republic, as well as one of the most interesting figures on an international level in the field of experimentation between visual art and contemporary sound research.
