Dal 13 maggio al 16 luglio 2023, il Palazzo Pisani Revedin (Campo Manin) accoglie la mostra Ventrone. La natura è morta la pittura è viva, a cura di Luca Beatrice, promossa dalla Venice International University e dalla Fondazione Ventrone Gibilisco, con l’organizzazione de il Cigno GG Edizioni e Villaggio Globale International. A due anni dalla scomparsa di Luciano Ventrone, la pittura “più vera del vero” dell’artista romano, le sue famose nature morte e non solo giungono a Venezia.
La mostra a Venezia comprende tre “eccezioni” al genere della natura morta come Alice, nudo di donna ritratta di schiena del 2015, e due marine del 2011 e del 2021.
Ventrone “raffredda, anzi congela” il soggetto scelto. “Lo viviseziona portandolo sull’orlo del baratro, oltre non c’è più nulla e neppure un’immagine riprodotta tecnicamente può varcare questo limite,” secondo il curatore. “Se si chiama morta questa natura un motivo ci sarà.”
“Ventrone prende alla lettera la sfida restituendone un sentimento obitoriale”, dice Beatrice. Non c’è più niente di vivo nel suo quadro, tranne la pittura. “La natura è morta, la pittura è viva”.
Ventrone stesso si definiva “un astrattista alle prese con la realtà”.
Palazzo Pisani Revedin in Campo Manin hosts a retrospective of Luciano Ventrone’s truer than life paintings from May 13 to July 16. “Nature is dead, painting is alive,” is curated by Luca Beatrice and sponsored by the Venice International University and the Ventrone Gibilisco Foundation, with the organization of Il Cigno GG Edizioni and Villaggio Globale International. Two years after the death of Luciano Ventrone, the Roman artist's painting “truer than truth,” his famous still lives and more arrive in Venice.
The exhibition at Palazzo Pisani Revedin will include three “exceptions” to the still life genre such as Alice, a nude woman as seen from the back (2015), and two seascapes done in 2011 and 2021.
Ventrone (Rome 1942-Collelongo 2021) “cools, or rather freezes” the chosen subject. “He vivisects it, bringing it to the edge of the abyss, beyond which there is nothing left and not even a technically reproduced image can cross this limit” says Beatrice. “There is a reason why you call this a still life.”
According to the curator, “Ventrone takes the challenge literally, restoring a morgue feeling.” Nothing alive in his painting anymore, Beatrice says. “Nature is dead, painting is alive”.
Ventrone himself defined himself as “an abstractionist grappling with reality.”
