Empty Rooms II

In via Stradella 4, Joan Jonas (New York, 1936) presents the installation Empty Rooms II, as her fourth solo show at the gallery. The second iteration of this project, also presented at the Nam June Paik Art Center South Korea in 2025, belongs to a new chapter in Jonas’ latest research: an invitation to the public to contemplate the connections between familiarity and loss through an interpretative work, rather than an explanatory one.
Empty Rooms II makes absence and loss visible, evoking the fragility of nature in a condition of rapid change, but indispensably bonding with the concept of rebirth and permanence in memory.

Friends and Family

Friends and Family brings together works by Alejandro Cesarco that examines portraiture as a structure of affinity, influence, and chosen genealogy. Through photographs, text works, and video, Cesarco traces the ways in which we assemble ourselves through others – teachers, peers, relatives, mentors, even fictional characters – constructing a network of relations that both precedes and exceeds the self. The exhibition stages portraits that are less about likenesses than about echoes and reverberations: intimate dedications, re-performed gestures, borrowed sentences, and recurring motifs. In doing so, Friends and Family suggests that identity is always a composite and ongoing.
