Con l’esposizione di Gianni Piacentino, “Werke”, la “Paolo Erbetta Gallery” inaugura la sua nuova sede a Berlino, nella quale sarà presentato un programma di alcuni protagonisti dell’arte europea attivi già dagli anni Sessanta e Settanta, oltre a giovani artisti della scena italiana e internazionale.

L’artista italiano Gianni Piacentino è un protagonista dell’arte contemporanea fin dalla metà degli anni Sessanta, in cui appena ventenne cominciò ad esporre. Torinese, grande appassionato di motociclette e corridore egli stesso, ha partecipato alla stagione dell’Arte Povera ed è stato inserito dal critico e teorico del movimento Germano Celant, nella serie di mostre allestite in Italia tra 2011 e 2012 per celebrare il gruppo di artisti italiani più famoso nel mondo.
L’arte di Piacentino è estremamente riconoscibile ed è legata a un minimalismo animato da un’idea di tecnologia assolutamente originale, espressa spesso nei dettagli delle singole opere. Dal 1965 in poi la sua storia artistica ha prodotto forme elementari, pali, porte, tavoli, in cui, la forma sempre leggermente spiazzante e il colore metallico, hanno preso le distanze dalla logica artistica allora prevalente dei materiali naturali.
Gianni Piacentino ha realizzato anche veicoli o quadri dedicati ai fratelli Wright, spaziando dall’installazione alla pittura sempre affascinato dal design dell’industria motoristica. Il mondo delle corse e l’idea della velocità nei lavori dagli anni Ottanta in poi sono resi in modo simbolico, astratto, quasi metafisico. Per questo la sua minuziosa ricerca del dettaglio e l’attenzione ossessiva sui particolari, hanno fatto sì che la sua arte sia assolutamente unica e sempre riconoscibile nel panorama mondiale. In mostra opere come “DARK AMARANTH SMALL POLE III" 1966 o "METALLOID PURPLE-GRAY INCLINED WINDOW OBJECT" 1967-1968 segnano il superamento delle strutture primarie e il concetto di un’arte che sa progettare l’essenzialità delle forme in relazione al colore come ricerca e che l’artista elabora personalmente nel suo laboratorio sempre con richiami al mondo dell’industria moto-automobilistica o di quello aeronautico.
"BLACK SCOOTER II" 1969 appartiene già ai “veicoli”, strumenti visivi, che contengono la velocità nel loro dna, mentre il recente "ALU RECORD VEHICLE PROTOTYPE, II A_SHELF, II" 2008 richiama la passione dell’artista per i veicoli da record come la famosa famiglia dei “Bluebird” (1933-1964) dei piloti inglesi Malcolm e Donald Campbell. "RACE 5 MO' (F.H.W.)" 1991-1992, "TROPHY_MS1a (V.V.W.) 3" 2004-2006, "FRONTAL 4 (P.A.S.)_2" 2005-2007 completano la mostra di apertura della galleria e sono altrettante tipologie di opere realizzate nel corso dell’attività dell’artista italiano. In questi lavori l’immaginario tecnologico, l’estetica della velocità, le forme essenziali ma frutto di una complessa elaborazione e ricerca, sono perfettamente rappresentati.
Gianni Piacentino ha cominciato ad esporre in Germania nel 1970 presso la Onnasch Galerie di Colonia, nell’inaugurazione della celebre Galeriehaus Köln in Lindenstrasse, mentre in contemporanea nello stesso edificio si inauguravano, presso altre gallerie, le mostre di Baselitz e Gilbert & George. L’anno seguente ebbe la sua prima personale a New York presso l’ OK Harris Gallery. Nel 1972 gli fu dedicata la sua prima mostra personale in un museo pubblico, al Palais des Beaux Arts di Bruxelles. Nel 1977 fu invitato da un curatore tedesco a partecipare a “Documenta 6” a Kassel come unico artista italiano. Inoltre, si ricorda la sua esposizione retrospettiva nel 1981 alla Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst e V. di Brema ed ancora a Berlino (R.Onnasch Austellungen, 1983). Nel 2009, la fondazione della collezione Onnasch (El Surdog Hex) ha esposto 15 tra le 35 opere della collezione stessa. Together with the exhibition “Werke” of Gianni Piacentino, the “Paolo Erbetta Gallery” opens its new venue in Berlin. The programme offered by “Paolo Erbetta Gallery” exhibits established classic artists from the 60s and 70s as well as young artists from the Italian and international artistic scene.
The Italian artist, Gianni Piacentino, has been a key figure on the contemporary art scene since the mid 60s, when in his twenties he started exhibiting his works. Originally from Turin, he is keen on motorbikes (having a career as a racer himself) and has taken part in the Italian movement of “Arte Povera”. Germano Celant, a critic and theorist of the movement, included Piacentino in the series of exhibitions mounted in Italy between 2011 and 2012 designed to celebrate the most famous Italian artists in the world.
Piacentino’s art is particularly recognizable – it draws heavily from minimalism and technology, each of which is expressed in every detail of his work. Starting from 1965, he transformed elementary shapes and structures (posts, doors, tables etc.) into new forms, where his slightly unusual forms combined with metallic colours contrast against the use of natural materials used at the time; this helped to distance his objects from the prevailing artistic concept.
Gianni Piacentino has also made vehicles (or “works” as he calls them) and paintings dedicated to the Wright brothers; from installations to paintings, Piacentino has been fascinated by the designs of the motoring industry. From the 80s, both the racing world and the idea of speed are projected onto his works in a symbolic and abstract, almost metaphysical, way. His meticulous attention to detail has made his art unique and recognizable worldwide. The exhibition includes works like “DARK AMARANTH SMALL POLE III" from 1966 and "METALLOID PURPLE-GRAY INCLINED WINDOW OBJECT" from 1967-1968, both of which portray the transformation of elementary structures; such pieces celebrate the concept of an art that can be planned and researched in terms of the essence of forms in relation to colours. This research of combinations, which the artist develops personally in his laboratory, recalls the world of the motor, automobile or aeronautics industries.
"BLACK SCOOTER II" from 1969 already belongs to the “vehicles”, or visual instruments, which have been built for speed, whereas the recent "ALU RECORD VEHICLE PROTOTYPE, II A_SHELF, II" from 2008 recalls the artist’s passion for vehicles able to beat records, like the famous “Bluebird” (1933-1964) family of the English pilots, Malcolm and Donald Campbell. "RACE 5 MO' (F.H.W.)" from 1991-1992, "TROPHY_MS1a (V.V.W.) 3" from 2004-2006 and "FRONTAL 4 (P.A.S.)_2" from 2005-2007 complete the opening exhibition of the gallery and represent other types of work he realized during his career. These works perfectly combine technology, the beauty of speed and the essentiality of forms, all of which, however, are the result of complex research.
Gianni Piacentino started to exhibit his works in Germany in 1970 at the Onnasch Galerie in Cologne. The Onnasch Galerie is one of many galleries located in the famous Galeriehaus Köln in Lindenstraße. Therefore whilst Piacentino was exhibiting his works in the Onnasch Galerie, many other famous artists such as Baselitz and Gilbert & George were also exhibiting their works at the same time in the same building. The following year he had his own first solo exhibition in New York at the OK Harris Gallery. In 1972, the public museum Palais des Beaux Arts of Bruxelles dedicated a solo exhibition to him. In 1977 he was the only Italian artist to be invited by a German curator to participate in “Documenta 6” in Kassel. Furthermore, the retrospective exhibition in 1981 at the Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst e V. in Bremen is worth noting as well as subsequent exhibitions in Berlin (R.Onnasch Austellungen, 1983). In 2009, Onnasch’s collection foundation (El Surdog Hex) exhibited 15 from the 35 works of the collection. Mit der Ausstellung “Werke" von Gianni Piacentino wird auch der neue Sitz der “Paolo Erbetta Gallery” in Berlin eingeweiht, in der neben jungen Künstlern der italienischen und internationalen Szene ein Programm von einigen künstlerischen, schon seit den 60er und 70er Jahren schöpferisch tätigen Hauptvertretern Europas vorgelegt wird.
Der italienische Künstler Gianni Piacentino ist seit Mitte der 60er Jahre ein Hauptvertreter zeitgenössischer Kunst. Bereits in dieser Zeit begann er, gerade 20jährig, seine Werke auszustellen. Piacentino wohnt in Turin und ist ein begeisteter Motorradfan, der selbst Rennen fährt. Das Schaffen des Künstlers wurde von der Blütezeit der Arte Povera geprägt, und seine Werke wurden von Germano Celant, dem Kunstkritiker und Theoretiker der Bewegung zwischen 2011 und 2012 in eine Reihe von Ausstellungen in Italien aufgenommen, um die weltweit berühmteste Gruppe italienischer Künstler zu feiern.
Die Kunst Piacentinos ist leicht erkennbar und eng an einen Minimalismus gebunden, der von einer äußerst originellen Auffassung von Technologie belebt wird, die oft in den Details der einzelnen Werke zum Ausdruck kommt. Seit dem Jahr 1965 hat der Künstler während seines Werdegangs elementare Formen, Pfähle, Türen, Tische hervorgebracht, deren immer leicht desorientierende Form und die metallene Farbe Distanz zu der künstlerischen Logik der damals vorherrschenden natürlichen Materialien schufen.
Gianni Piacentino hat auch Fahrzeuge oder Bilder, die er den Brüdern Wright gewidmet hat, realisiert. Begeistert vom Design der Motorsportindustrie, betätigt sich der Künstler zwischen Installations-und Malerarbeiten. Die Welt der Rennen, die Vorstellung der Geschwindigkeit wird seit den 80er Jahren in seinen Arbeiten auf symbolische, abstrakte, fast metaphysische Art wiedergegeben. Sein minuziöses Auswählen der Details, seine obsessive Akzentuierung der Besonderheiten bewirken somit, dass seine Kunst absolut einzigartig und sofort weltweit erkennbar ist.
In der Ausstellung unterstreichen Werke wie “DARK AMARANTH SMALL POLE III” aus dem Jahr 1966 oder “METALLOID PURPLE_GRAY INCLINED WINDOW OBJECT”, geschaffen in den Jahren 1967-1968, das Überwinden der primären Strukturen und den Begriff einer Kunst, die die Wesentlichkeit der Formen in Zusammenhang mit der Suche nach der Farbe projektieren vermag und die der Künstler auf persönliche Art und Weise in seiner Werkstatt immer mit Bezug auf die Welt der Motorrad-,Automobil-, und Luftfahrtindustrie ausarbeitet.
“BLACK SCOOTER II” aus dem Jahr 1969 gehört bereits zu den “Fahrzeugen”, visiven Instrumenten, die die Geschwindigkeit in ihrer DNA enthalten, während das jüngst entstandene Werk “ALU RECORD VEHICLE PROTOTYPE, II A-SHELF,II” aus dem Jahr 2008 an die Passion des Künstlers für Hochgeschwindigkeitsfahrzeuge erinnert, dieselbe Leidenschaft, die die englischen Piloten Malcolm und Donald Campbell für ihre berühmten “Bluebird”-Fahrzeuge (1933-1964) empfanden.
“RACE 5 MO`(F.H.W.)”,das zwischen 1991 und 1992 entstanden ist, "TROPHY_MS1a (V.V.W.) 3" 2004-2006, "FRONTAL 4 (P.A.S.)_2" 2005-2007 vervollständigen die Eröffnungsausstellung der Galerie und sind ebenso Typologien der Werke, die der Künstler im Laufe seiner Tätigkeit geschaffen hat. In diesen Werken werden das technologische Imaginäre, die Ästhetik der Geschwindigkeit, die wesentlichen,jedoch komplex ausgearbeiteten und ausgeklügelten Formen auf perfekte Weise dargestellt.
Gianni Piacentino begann 1970 mit der Ausstellung seiner Werke in Deutschland bei der Onnasch Galerie in Köln. Gleichzeitig eröffneten andere Galerien im selben Haus Ausstellungen von Baselitz und Gilbert & George. Das Jahr danach veranstaltete Gianni Piacentino seine erste Solo-Ausstellung in New York bei der OK Harris Gallery. 1972 widmete das öffentliche Museum Palais des Beaux Arts in Brüssel ihm eine Solo-Ausstellung. 1977 war er als einziger italienischer Künstler zur „Documenta 6“ in Kassel bei einem deutschen Kurator eingeladen. Nennenswert ist darüber hinaus auch die retrospektive Ausstellung bei der Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst e.V. 1981 in Bremen und in Berlin (R.Onnasch Austellungen, 1983). 2009 stellte die Onnasch Sammlung (El Surdog Hex) 15 von 35 Werke aus der Sammlung aus.
