Il convegno “Come pensare per immagini? Luigi Ghirri e la fotografia – How to think in images? Luigi Ghirri and photography”, che si terrà presso l’Accademia Britannica di Roma mercoledì 9 ottobre 2013, esaminerà i vari aspetti del lavoro di Ghirri (1943-1992), fotografo, teorico, promotore culturale.
I partecipanti sono Francesca Fabiani, Laura Gasparini, Giuliano Sergio, curatori della mostra di Ghirri in corso al MAXXI; Anna D’Elia, Elena Re, Arturo Carlo Quintavalle, Ennery Taramelli, critici e storici che hanno lavorato ampiamente sull’opera di Ghirri; Vittore Fossati, uno dei fotografi che parteciparono ai progetti sul paesaggio di Ghirri; e gli organizzatori del convegno, Marina Spunta (University of Leicester) e Jacopo Benci (The British School at Rome).
Il convegno – patrocinato da Regione Emilia Romagna, Comune di Reggio Emilia, Biblioteca Panizzi, Society for Italian Studies, e in collaborazione col MAXXI in occasione della mostra “Luigi Ghirri. Pensare per immagini” (23 aprile-27 ottobre 2013) – è il primo evento di un progetto biennale di ricerca interdisciplinare intitolato “Viewing and writing Italian landscape. Luigi Ghirri and his legacy in photography and literature”, sostenuto da uno Small Research Grant della British Academy/Leverhulme Trust, e coordinato da Marina Spunta e Jacopo Benci.

The conference “Come pensare per immagini? Luigi Ghirri e la fotografia – How to think in images? Luigi Ghirri and photography”, held at The British School at Rome, via Gramsci 61, 00197 Roma, on Wednesday, 9 October 2013, will explore the various aspects of the work of photographer, theorist, and cultural organizer Luigi Ghirri (1943-1992).
The speakers at the conference are Francesca Fabiani, Laura Gasparini, Giuliano Sergio, curators of the current Ghirri exhibition at MAXXI in Rome; Anna D’Elia, Elena Re, Arturo Carlo Quintavalle, Ennery Taramelli, critics and historians who have worked extensively on Ghirri; Vittore Fossati, one of the photographers who participated in Ghirri’s projects on landscape; and the conference organizers, Marina Spunta (University of Leicester) and Jacopo Benci (The British School at Rome).
The conference – under the patronage of the Regional Government of Emilia Romagna, the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, the Biblioteca Panizzi, the Society for Italian Studies, and in collaboration with the MAXXI on the occasion of the exhibition “Luigi Ghirri. Pensare per immagini” (23 April-27 October 2013) – is the first event of a two-year interdisciplinary research project entitled “Viewing and writing Italian landscape. Luigi Ghirri and his legacy in photography and literature”, supported by a British Academy/Leverhulme Trust Small Research Grant, and co-ordinated by Marina Spunta and Jacopo Benci.
