ADR_the Bestiary è la prima mostra personale del giovane artista Andrea Piccinno a.k.a. ADR ed è il frutto di un progetto che simultaneamente si snoda tra i muri della città e quelli della galleria. I soggetti delle 10 opere esposte, acquerelli e chine su carta, sono le creature fantastiche, marine e terrene, riprese dalle fonti scritte e illustrate del passato: la Naturalis Historia di Plinio il Vecchio, il Bestiario di Aberdeen e le Cronache di Norimberga di Hartmann Schedel. Ispirandosi dunque a queste fonti antiche ADR sviluppa un progetto che viaggia su due binari paralleli. Il primo in cui le bestie, sotto forma di poster, vengono incollate alle pareti delle strade popolando i quartieri della città. Il secondo in cui queste bestie, sotto forma di tavole, vengono riunite all'interno di un'unica parete, quello della galleria, dove ADR può ricostruire il suo immaginario. ADR rilegge in chiave contemporanea gli antichi Bestiari in cui le tavole esposte, come un nuovo codice miniato, si legano in maniera indissolubile al passato, che ritorna ad essere attuale sia nella sua realizzazione artistica che nella lettura del singolo spettatore.
ADR_the Bestiary is young artist Andrea Picinno's (a.k.a. ADR) first personal exhibit, and comes as a result of a project simultaneously articulated around the walls of both city and gallery. The subjects of the 10 exhibited artworks, watercolours and ink drawings, are creatures of fantasy both marine and terrestrial, taken from written and illustrated sources of the past: Pliny the Elder's Naturalis Historia, the Aberdeen Bestiary and Hartmann Schedel's Nuremberg Chronicle. Drawing inspiration from these ancient sources ADR develops a project along two parallel courses. On one hand, beasts in poster-form are glued to the street walls, populating the city's neighbourhoods; on the other, these beasts coming alive on panels are brought together on a single gallery wall, where ADR is free to recompose his imaginations. Thus ADR reinterprets the ancient Bestiaries in a contemporary fashion, where the displayed panels, much like a new illuminated codex, form an unbreakable bond with the past, which is presently renewed both in its artistic accomplishment and in the spectator's individual viewing.
