La galleria 1000eventi ha il piacere di annunciare la terza mostra personale di Andrea Mastrovito dall’evocativo titolo Martyres.
L’artista torna ad esporre a Milano dopo le mostre primaverili che l’hanno visto protagonista al Museo del Novecento e a Casa Testori presentando in quest' occasione un progetto più intimo e raccolto: una rilettura contemporanea del concetto di martirio che ha permeato l'arte europea per oltre mille anni.
Ispirato dal Martirologio della basilica di Santo Stefano Rotondo in Roma dipinto dal Pomarancio, e dalla cruda lista di martiri e supplizi che Josè Saramago elenca nelle pagine finali del suo “Vangelo secondo Gesù Cristo”, Mastrovito ricerca le motivazioni primordiali del martirio, spogliandole della loro aura di leggenda, e sottoponendocele come miracoli innanzitutto umani, eroismi quotidiani necessari alla vita che, inaspettatamente, rifiorisce sul filo della spada del boia.
La mostra si articola in tre momenti intrinsecamente legati l’uno con l’altro. La prima parte è dedicata ai disegni che, disposti uno accanto all’altro, vanno a costituire una prima teoria di martiri e santi rivelando l'innato amore di Andrea Mastrovito per il segno grafico .
Da questo primo nucleo si sviluppa un ciclo di quindici collages uniti senza soluzione di continuità, ricordo del fregio della basilica romana, nei quali l'artista presenta, con la leggerezza che lo caratterizza, una moderna teoria di martiri cartacei. Conclude la mostra una video installazione composta da disegni animati e ispirata alla vicenda di Sant’ Alessandro, patrono di Bergamo, il cui sangue, dopo il martirio, cadendo al suolo, fiorì in gigli bianchi e rose rosse nei pressi del luogo in cui, oggi, l'artista ha il suo studio.

Gallery 1000eventi is pleased to announce the third solo show by Andrea Mastrovito, with the evocative title Martyres.
The artist returns to Milan for a show after the events of the spring, when he was the protagonist at the Museo del Novecento and at Casa Testori. This time he presents a more intimate, contemplative project: a contemporary reinterpretation of the concept of martyrdom that has permeated European art for over a thousand years.
Inspired by the Martyrology of the Basilica of Santo Stefano Rotondo painted in Rome by Pomarancio, and by the crude list of martyrs and torments provided by Josè Saramago in the final pages of his Gospel According to Jesus Christ, Mastrovito seeks the primordial motivations of martyrdom, stripping them of their aura of legend, submitting them to us as miracles that are first of all human, everyday heroics necessary for the life that unexpectedly replenishes itself on the executioner’s blade.
The exhibition is organized in three intrinsically interconnected parts. The first is devoted to drawings, arrayed to constitute an initial theory of martyrs and saints, revealing Mastrovito’s inborn love of graphic signs.
From this first nucleus, a cycle of fifteen collages develops, joined seamlessly like the frieze in the Roman Basilica, in which the artist presents, with his usual light touch, a modern theory of paper martyrs. The show concludes with a video installation composed of animated drawings based on the story of St. Alexander, the patron saint of Bergamo whose blood, when he became a martyr, fell to the ground and generated white lilies and red roses near the place where the artist has his studio today.
