59° Premio Faenza

Officine Saffi prosegue la collaborazione con il Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche di Faenza presentando nei propri spazi milanesi la selezione delle opere degli artisti premiati alla 59° edizione del Premio Faenza.

Dal 9 giugno al 15 luglio, alle Officine Saffi di Milano saranno esposti i lavori dei vincitori dei premi delle diverse sezioni e dei 15 artisti finalisti.

Silvia Celeste Calcagno (Genova, Italia,1974) vincitrice della sezione over 40, con l’opera Interno 8, La fleur coupée. Una serie di opere di Silvia Celeste Calcagno è stata esposta in anteprima alle Officine Saffi in coincidenza con l’aggiudicazione del premio.
Helene Kirchmair (Hall in Tirol, Austria,1981) vincitrice ex aequo con Thomas Stollar (Claysville, Pennsylvania, Stati Uniti, 1980) per la categoria under 40 rispettivamente con le opere Bobbles e 1900 steps #2. Nicholas Lees, (Winchester, Regno Unito, 1967), Premio Cersaie con l’opera Four Leaning Vessels.

A questi si accompagnano i lavori degli artisti che hanno ricevuto le altre menzioni in palio: Marie-Laure Gobat-Bouchat, Yves Malfliet, Giulio Mannino, Irina Razumovskaya, Kathy Ruttenberg, Monika Jeannette Schödel-Müller & Werner Bernhard Nowka, Zsolt József Simon, Ömür Tokgöz, Ann Van Hoey e due selezionati dalla galleria Officine Saffi, l’opera Untitled 2 del coreano Sangwoo Kim e Please touch! dell’ungherese Imre Ezster.

“Le opere selezionate dimostrano una varia complessa realtà, frutto di ricerche, formazioni e percorsi diversi, tutti, nel loro personalissimo equilibrio, di altissimo livello". – commenta Claudia Casali direttrice del Museo.

Officine Saffi nella sua mission di realtà promotrice della cultura ceramica rinnova la collaborazione con il MIC per rafforzare e sostenere il medium ceramico come mezzo espressivo che oggi più che mai sta vivendo, soprattutto in Italia, un momento di grande attenzione nel sistema dell’arte contemporanea.
A tal proposito, nel corso dell’anno, verranno effettuate nei laboratori di Officine Saffi, le Residenze d’Artista per i vincitori dei premi principali, un importante momento di scambio e osmosi tra le diverse ricerche e sperimentazioni.

Premio Faenza
Il Premio Faenza, istituito nel 1938, negli anni ha visto la partecipazione di artisti come Lucio Fontana, Angelo Biancini, Guido Gambone, Leoncillo Leonardi, Pietro Melandri, Carlo Zauli – e stranieri - come Eduard Chapallaz, Sueharu Fukami – che hanno fatto, non solo la storia della ceramica del XX secolo, ma anche quella della scultura e della pittura del Novecento.

Officine Saffi continues its cooperation with the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza by presenting the selection of award-winning works from the 59th edition of the Premio Faenza in its exhibition spaces.

From June 9 to July 15, Officine Saffi in Milan will display works by 15 artists competing in the 59th Premio Faenza, including the winners of the main prizes: Silvia Celeste Calcagno (Genoa, Italy, 1974) in the over 40 section with the work Interno 8 – La fleur coupée – whose series of works has already previewed at Officine Saffi concurrently with the prize awards; Helene Kirchmair (Hall in Tirol, Austria, 1981) winner ex aequo with Thomas Stollar (Claysville, Pennsylvania, USA, 1980) in the under 40 category, respectively with the works Bobbles and 1900 steps #2; and Nicholas Lees(Winchester, United Kingdom, 1967) who was awarded the Premio Cersaie for the work Four Leaning Vessels.

These are accompanied by the works of artists who have received other mentions in the competition: Marie-Laure Gobat-Bouchat, Yves Malfliet, Giulio Mannino, Irina Razumovskaya, Kathy Ruttenberg, Monika Jeannette Schödel-Müller & Werner Bernhard Nowka, Zsolt József Simon, Ömür Tokgöz, Ann Van Hoey and two selected by Officine Saffi gallery the artwork Untitled 2 by the Korean Sangwoo Kim and Please touch! of the Hungarian Imre Ezster.

"The selected works serve to demonstrate a varied complex reality, the fruit of different researches, backgrounds and pathways, all of the highest level in their personal balance," notes Claudia Casali, director of the Museum.

In its mission of promoting the culture of ceramics, Officine Saffi is renewing its collaboration with the MIC, wishing to strengthen and support the ceramic medium as a means of contemporary expression which, today more than ever and above all in Italy, is witnessing a moment of great attention in the art world.

To this end, beside the exhibition, artist residencies for the winners of the main prizes will be hosted in the workshop of Officine Saffi during the year, representing an important occasion of exchange and osmosis at international level.

Premio Faenza
Over the years, the Premio Faenza, which was established in 1938, has seen the participation of Italian artists such as Lucio Fontana, Angelo Biancini, Guido Gambone, Leoncillo Leonardi, Pietro Melandri and Carlo Zauli, and foreign artists such as Eduard Chapallaz and Sueharu Fukami, who have made the history not only of 20th century ceramics, but also of the sculpture and painting of the 1900s.
