About the Metamorphosis of a Spoon in Piping

A spoon reflects the dimensions and ergonomic limits of the human body and
represents the old world, which preceded today’s almost continuous flow of
substances and information into our bodies. It does not exactly mean that by
tomorrow we will be drip-fed food in liquid form through a tube, however
todays’s developed infrastructure ensures that there is a bite to eat
almost at any quantity and at any time for some people. A valve piece on the
body would just be another logical step. The spoon becomes obsolete, because
it is too under control; the hand, the eye and the mouth allude to manual
labor and mining. A thick plastic straw, through which anything, such as
bubble tea, can pass is currently in trend and has already become a symbol.

I inherited a spoon from the Second World War from my great grandfather,
which was “eaten throughout” or rather worn out by plates. Whereas in the
legendary Czech cafeteria Koruna they drilled holes into metal spoons on
purpose, so that they would not be stolen.

When we imagine the layers of “eaten through” spoons and purposefully
damaged spoons placed on one another, we create a piping where the individual
spoons create the segments of a tapeworm.
