Galleria Six is pleased to announce Terry Atkinson's solo show in collaboration with the artist.
Atkinson was born in 1939 in the village of Thurnscoe (Yorkshire)
In 1968 he became a founding member of Art & Language, a group of theorists and radically innovative artists.
In 1974 he abandoned the group as the initial ideologies ceased and the same conceptualism was supposed to come to an end, as sort of a natural "calcification"
The artist thus began his individual story, "From Us to Me".
The critical character of the works on display, featuring more than thirty years of his artistic path, is the fundamental aspect of Terry Atkinson's practice, also known as Terry Actor, Terry Mirrors, Terry Dog and Terry Enola Gay.
Atkinson's criticism does not only have a political or social nature but digs deep into the same stereotype of the artistic language.
Today Terry Atkinson is considered by the most attentive international critics as one of the crucial artists who have questioned the same concept of aesthetics of art.
His works have been exhibited extensively in Great Britain, Europe, Canada and the USA.
Among his most important exhibits are: solo shows at the Whitechapel Art Gallery London (1983), Gimpel Fils London (1985-1991), Kunstewerke Berlin (1995), Real Gallery New York City (1999), Royal Leamington Spa, Art Gallery Warwickshire (2003), Leeds City Art gallery Leeds (2004), Galleria Melesi Lecco (2006) Yale Union Portland Oregon (2014) , ,Stampa Gallery Basel ;
group shows include Documenta 5 Kassel (1972), Museum of Modern Art, New York (1970), Venice Biennial (1984), Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (1991). In 1985 he was selected for the Turner Prize.
In 2009 Tate Gallery in London purchased one of his works.
Three of his Grease Work s are to be shown i n an upcoming exhibition titled "Mechanism" at Wattis Institute, San Francisco, October 2017 to January 2018
