La Galleria Patricia Armocida è lieta di presentare A Thousand of Whispers, prima mostra personale italiana dell’artista coreana Yulim Song, a cura di Tiziana Castelluzzo; inaugurazione martedì 8 Maggio 2018, ore 19.00. L’esposizione propone quarantasei opere di piccolo e medio formato appartenenti a diverse serie prodotte tra il 2010 e il 2017 e due installazioni site-specific.

Il lavoro di Yulim è delicato, aereo, quasi sussurrato, fatto di leggeri ricami, dipinti su seta, oggetti quotidiani trasformati in minuscoli gioielli, piccole strutture scultoree che rimandano al concetto di nido, di rifugio. Come un diario di sentimenti, una confessione di segreti mai svelati, le sue opere intime e femminili riconducono alla sfera dell’affettività e dei legami famigliari.

Le opere di Yulim hanno origine da una lunga ricerca di parole e di scritti collezionati nel tempo, da emozioni provenienti da esperienze vissute, da ricordi ritrovati. Solo dopo inizia il suo processo creativo attraverso cui tutti gli elementi raccolti si trasformano, rivelandosi sotto forma di immagine o di oggetto. Ogni singolo lavoro ha la sua storia individuale ma rimane intrinsecamente legato agli altri come un frammento di un unico racconto.

La tecnica del ricamo che ricorre in tutte le sue opere ed installazioni ha un significato importante per l’artista perché legato ad un gesto di armonia che richiede tempo, delicatezza ed un’abilità che fonda le sue radici nella storia famigliare e nella trasmissione di questa eredità di generazione in generazione.
La meticolosa maestria di Yulim obbliga l’osservatore ad una pausa, ad un momento di osservazione che diventa contemplazione e stimolo ad una riflessione sulla propria storia personale.

Nata a Seoul nel 1983, ha conseguito un master in Art&Space presso la Kingston University di Londra. Patricia Armocida Gallery is pleased to present A Thousand of Whispers, the first Italian solo show, by Korean artist Yulim Song, curated by Tiziana Castelluzzo. Opening reception on Tuesday 8 May 2018, 7pm. The exhibition presents forty-six small and medium size works belonging to different series produced between 2010 and 2017 and two site-specific installations.

Yulim's work is delicate, airy, almost whispered, made of light embroideries, inks on silk, everyday objects transformed into tiny jewels, small sculptural structures that refer to the concept of nest and shelter. Like a diary of feelings, a confession of secrets never revealed, his intimate and feminine work leads back to the sphere of affections and family ties.

Yulim's work originates from a long search of words and writings collected over time, from emotions coming from lived experiences, from rediscovered memories. Only then his creative process begins and all the accumulated elements are transformed, revealing themselves in the form of an image or an object. Every single work has its individual history but remains intrinsically linked to others as a fragment of a single story.

The embroidery technique that recurs in all his works and installations has an important meaning for the artist because it is linked to a gesture of harmony that requires time, delicacy and a skill that bases its roots in the family history and in the transmission of this legacy from generation to generation. The meticulous mastery of Yulim obliges the observer to pause, for a moment of observation that becomes contemplation and stimulus to a reflection on his personal history.

Born in Seoul in 1983, she holds a master's degree in Art & Space at Kingston University of London.
