IKEYAZHANG is a nomadic and itinerant organization that takes its name from a comet and its long trail of vapours and light. Like its namesake, it detaches itself from the repository of dormant comets that is the Oort cloud, appears, makes its run around the sun and disappears once again into the depths of space.

On the night of 1 February 2002, making visual observations through amateur telescopes, three astronomers almost simultaneously discovered the comet, initially designated as C/2002 C1, as it came deeper into our solar system.
They were: Karou Ikeya, of the prefecture of Shizuoka (Japan) and Zhang Daqing of the province of Henan in China, after whom the comet has been named and, just a few hours later, Paulo M. Raymundo in Brazil. All amateurs who, peering into the dark sky in solitude, found a comet that had a magnitude of nine at the time. It was in the constellation of the Whale (Cetus), low in the evening sky to the west, and turned out to be an object of unexpected and stunning beauty.
Calculations of its orbit have shown that it is a ‘long-period’ comet, which may have already visited the inner solar system in the 17th century. In fact its trajectory is very similar to that of a heavenly body observed by the Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius in 1661. It appeared with a coma of diffused and elusive light and with an extremely long and thin tail of ions, filled with a multitude of gaseous filaments.

With Local Objects, IKEYAZHANG is inaugurating its activity in Milan, at Via Donatello 36, at 6:30 pm on 18 November 2015.

Verses by Wallace Stevens.

He knew that he was a spirit without a foyer
And that, in his knowledge, local objects become
More precious than the most precious objects of home:

The local objects of a world without a foyer,
Without a remembered past, a present past,
Or a present future, hoped for in present hope,

Objects not present as a matter of course
On the dark side of the heavens or the bright,
In that sphere with so few objects of its own.

Little existed for him but the few things
For which a fresh name always occurred, as if
He wanted to make them, keep them from perishing,

The few things, the objects of insight, the integrations
Of feeling, the things that came of their own accord,
Because he desired without knowing quite what,

That were the moments of the classic, the beautiful.
These were that serene he had always been approaching
As toward an absolute foyer beyond romance.
