Surveys the contemporary art system itself, artistic production and structures, public and private networks, the power of the system, the value of the artistic product, and the communication tools set by the system to control information and promotion.

As a result, LG Williams / The Estate of LG Williams responds to what has always been before our eyes, to what we read, see, hear, participate in, that which informs us, and that which we consume. By appropriating an artwork, an artist, a book, a situation, each of his works, or each of his actions, reach the limits of restitution. In fact, each appropriation certifies within its own process the valida- tion of a limit, the expansion of a modification that linguistically sets a new meaning through the extension of language.

With LG Williams / The Estate of LG Williams we could speak of “artworks-actions”, a construction that already carries the semantic value of a concept, but a concept enhanced, renovated and up- dated, because it has been activated through the orbit interruption of the pre-programmed loop of the analyzed/ certified artwork.

LG Williams / The Estate of LG Williams attains a typology of contextualization which is able to connect the structure of the artwork to the invisible outer limits of the event not only as modalities of imitation and parody-induced mystery and detached irony, but as an engagement of doubt and uncertainty, in which the work itself becomes a strategy of embodiment that is truly deceptive and sophisticated. As an extended manipulation of the hardware of contemporary art history, of the way of artistic thinking and acting.

Each one of his ideas materialize in painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography, publishing, through a complex structure that strategically bends to a rhizomatic, a horizontal extension through its completion; and monumentalizes within the sole idea of each action.

“CLOSED” is an online-video chosen by Gloria Maria Gallery to celebrate the new direction of its curatorial programme which from 2009 focused on the investigation of new digital aesthetics. With “CLOSED” Gloria Maria Gallery now opens a new season dedicated to projects that find their full self-realization online.

The work by LG Williams / The Estate of LG Williams focuses only on appearances (a process al- ready investigated); a simple text that reveals the exhibition colophon, appears on a black screen, detailing its production, and the precise description pinpoints each line with a peremptory: “NONE”.

The rhythm and the Sound are crucial as we can hear, in the background, the buzz of a crowded opening, an indistinct and mundane cheerful chatter, overlaid by the iteration, kosuth-style, “The gal- lery is closed,” interrupts the clamor, categorically reaffirming the closure, which lacks the credulity in view of the veracity we are witnessing.

To undermine any possible doubt and/or uncertainty about this “artwork-action” of “CLOSED”, LG Williams / The Estate of LG Williams also delivers a signed and sealed certificate, not only as proof of the artist’s detached irony, but as absolute certainty of the announced closing, which we are all attending.

Cosi LG Williams / The Estate of LG Williams, risponde con ogni suo lavoro a ciò che è sempre sotto i nostri occhi e che leggiamo, vediamo, ascoltiamo, partecipiamo, ci informiamo, e così ne fruiamo. L’appropriazione di un’opera, di un artista, di un libro, di un evento è sempre ciò che sospinge ai limiti della restituzione per ogni sua opera, per ogni suo atto. Infatti in ogni appropriazione, certifica con il suo agire, l’affermazione di un limite, l’ampliamento di una modificazione, che linguisticamente muove un nuovo senso per una estensione stessa del linguaggio.

Per LG Williams / The Estate of LG Williams possiamo parlare di “opere-azioni” che hanno in se tutto il valore semantico che già appartiene al suo concept, ma che concettualmente lo rende rinno- vato e contemporaneo, perché vissuto attraverso quell’interruzione orbitante nel circuito già prede- terminato dell’opera analizzata/certificata.

LG Williams / The Estate of LG Williams attua una radicata contestualizzazione con cui riesce a far aderire il significato dell’opera alle pareti invisibili dell’evento, non solo per le modalità che nella mi- mesi e nella parodia incidono mistero e una distaccata ironia, ma che innesta dubbio e incertezza, e il lavoro stesso, è nella sua strategia dall’apparenza davvero ingannevole e sofisticato. Una dilatata manipolazione dell’hardware della storia dell’arte contemporanea, del pensare e dell’agire artistico.

La sua idea si concretezza in pittura, scultura, installazione, video, fotografia, edizione, in una complessità espressiva che strategicamente si piega alla estensione ramificata e orizzontale della sua installazione; e monumentalizza con la sola idea, ogni suo intervento.

“CLOSED” è un online-video che Gloria Maria Gallery sceglie per celebrare il nuovo corso del suo programma espositivo che dal 2009 è fortemente incentrato sull’indagine delle nuove estetiche digitali. Con “CLOSED” infatti Gloria Maria Gallery inaugura una stagione totalmente dedicata a progetti che trovano online la loro piena realizzazione.

L’opera di LG Williams / The Estate of LG Williams focalizzando l’attenzione solo sul contenitore (pratica già indagata), fa apparire su schermate nere, un semplice testo editoriale che è un vero e strutturato colophon espositivo, e vi porta tutte le note della produzione, con una descrizione det- tagliata e, puntualizza per ogni voce, un perentorio: “NONE”.

Il ritmo come il Sound è determinante ed è il brusio degli openings affollati, un chiacchiericcio in- distinto e mondano, e iterando kosuthianamente “The gallery is closed”, interrompe il vocio, mentre riafferma perentoriamente la chiusura, a cui non possiamo certo non credere, e non attestarne la veridicità proprio con la nostra presenza.
A scardinare ogni possibile dubbio e/o incertezza di questa “opera –azione” della “CLOSED”, LG Williams appone anche il certificato firmato e sottoscritto che non è solo la distaccata ironica prova, ma l’assoluta certezza della chiusura annunciata, a cui tutti noi stiamo partecipando.
