Subito dopo si levò una voce rabbiosa – quella del Coniglio. Non afferrò niente, ma udì un grido strozzato e poi qualcosa che cadeva e un rumore di vetri rotti, per cui concluse che probabilmente era caduto in una serra o qualcosa del genere. “Provaci!” pensò Alice e, dopo aver aspettato finché non le parve di sentire il Coniglio sotto la finestra, distese una mano e di colpo la richiuse a pugno. Alice lo sentì dire a se stesso: “Faccio il giro e passerò dalla finestra”.
“Portami i guanti seduta stante!” “Marianna! Marianna!” diceva la voce. Ma dopo qualche minuto avvertì una voce dall’esterno e si interruppe per ascoltare. E andava avanti così, considerando prima ogni medaglia e poi il suo rovescio.
