Comunicato stampa

Lia Rumma Gallery is pleased to announce the solo exhibition by the South African artist William Kentridge, that will open on April 9th at in Via Stilicone, Milan.
Kentridge's artistic practice, as known, covers several areas: from drawings to animated films, from sculptures to tapestries, to etchings and shadow theater, from large installations to productions for Opera Houses.
At the ground floor of the Gallery, the sound/video installation More Sweetly Play the Dance (presented for the first time in 2015 at the Eye Museum, Amsterdam) will receive and surround the public: an animated frieze of life-sized moving images, based on the “procession” theme, will be projected along 40 meters.
The upper floors, first and second, are dedicated to the preparatory drawings, cut-outs, sculptures, tapestries and collages made for one of the most important artistic events of 2016: Triumphs & Laments: a project for Rome, a project inspired by the history of Rome, which will be launched on April 21st and 22nd on the embankments of the Tiber River walls that stretches between Ponte Sisto and Ponte Mazzini.
The work, a large-scale frieze that will be realized thanks to the cleanup of the biological patina accumulated on the travertine walls, will feature a "procession" of tall figures about 9 meters high over a length of 550 meters and will open with the premiere of a theatrical event created in collaboration with composer Philip Miller.
