Deborah Zlotsky – Ephemera

Ispirata dall’Italia e dalle tradizioni di Arte Povera, Deborah Zlotsky ha creato dei collage con materiali comuni, divertendosi con la possibilità di manipolare superfici e le relazioni tra di esse, e allo stesso tempo sfruttando le qualità effimere e peculiari dei prodotti quotidiani come tovaglioli di carta, giornali e buste di plastica.

Opere 2D di DEBORAH ZLOTSKY, vincitrice della prima SACI International Art Exhibition Award 2015, il cui lavoro è stato selezionato fra più di 960 partecipanti. E’ stata premiata con una mostra personale nella SACI Gallery del Palazzo dei Cartelloni.

Ispirata dall’Italia e dalle tradizioni di Arte Povera, Deborah Zlotsky ha creato dei collage con materiali comuni, divertendosi con la possibilità di manipolare superfici e le relazioni tra di esse, e allo stesso tempo sfruttando le qualità effimere e peculiari dei prodotti quotidiani come tovaglioli di carta, giornali e buste di plastica.

Nella sua attuale ricerca artistica, Zlotsky lavora in maniera attenta a costruire relazioni e facendo così ha scoperto che lavorare con i materiali di recupero intensifica gli aspetti performanti di questo tipo di approccio, poiché la fragilità dei materiali può assorbire una quantità limitata di alterazioni.

Deborah Zlotsky è la beneficiaria di una borsa di studio in pittura (2012) della New York Foundation for the Arts. E' rappresentata da Kathryn Markel Fine Arts a New York. Si espone il suo lavoro in mostre negli Stati Uniti, e i suoi disegni sono nei archivi della Pierogi Gallery e del Boston Drawing Project presso la Joseph Carroll and Sons Gallery, così come nel registro online del The Drawing Center. Il suo lavoro è stato selezionato per New American Paintings nel 2014 (edizione del nord-est). E’ presente in una selezionata lista di collezioni pubbliche che comprende Nordstrom, Progressive Insurance, Rutgers University, il Waldorf Astoria Hotel, il New York Palace Hotel e l'Istituto di Storia ed Arte di Albany. Negli ultimi 10 anni, Deborah ha ricevuto borse di residenze a Yaddo, Bernis Center for Contemporary Art, a VCCA, Ox-Bow, Millany Colony for the Arts, Ragdale Foundation, Weir Farm Art Center, e il Kimmel-Harding-Nelson Center for the Arts.

Zlotsky ha ottenuto il BA in Storia dell'Arte all'Università di Yale e un MFA in Pittura e Disegno presso l'Università del Connecticut. Insegna alla Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

2D art works by Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) instructor DEBORAH ZLOTSKY (USA), winner of SACI’s first International Art Exhibition Award 2015 whose work was juried from over 960 entrants. She has been awarded a solo exhibition in the SACI Gallery at SACI’s historic Palazzo dei Cartelloni.
Inspired by Italy and the traditions of Arte Povera, Deborah Zlotsky has created collage work from everyday materials, enjoying the chance to manipulate surfaces and relationships, yet embracing the ephemeral and peculiar qualities of quotidian products like paper towels, newspapers, and plastic bags. In her current artistic research, Zlotsky works in a responsive way to build relationships, and while doing so has discovered working with found materials intensifies the performative aspects of this approach, as the fragility of the materials can only absorb a limited amount of alteration.

Deborah Zlotsky is a 2012 recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in painting and is represented by Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York. She exhibits her work in exhibitions across the US, and her drawings are in the curated flat files of Pierogi Gallery and The Boston Drawing Project at Joseph Carroll and Sons Gallery, as well as the online-curated registry at The Drawing Center. Her work was selected for New American Paintings in 2014 (Northeast edition). A selected list of public collections includes Nordstrom, Progressive Insurance, Rutgers University, the Waldorf Astoria, the New York Palace Hotel and the Albany Institute of History and Art. Over the past 10 years, she has received residency fellowships at Yaddo, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, VCCA, Ox-Bow, Millay Colony for the Arts, Ragdale Foundation, Weir Farm Art Center and the Kimmel-Harding-Nelson Center for the Arts. Zlotsky received a BA in Art History from Yale University and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Connecticut. She teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design.
